Soon after the match, Ronaldo himself spoke to the press that he felt sad, and that the club knew the reason behinds it.

So, what is the reason exactly ? Since the match came later after Andres Iniesta crowned as UEFA best footballer, the press quickly accused him for getting disappointed for not winning the title. But then they find out that the previous meeting between Ronaldo and president Florentino Perez have caused all his problem. And that was when money talks…

Since 2009, Ronaldo pocketed €10 million per year. Minus the 23% tax, he still received €7,7 million. The actual tax income in Spain is 45 %, but since David Beckham’s law, then the 22% rest of the tax are paid by the club. Which means, every year, Real Madrid have to pay €15,5 million for Ronaldo’s salary plus taxes. And to make it worse, in a certain amount of salary, the tax could increase into 52%.

Since Ronaldo wished to renew the contract with Real Madrid (his contract will ends in 2015), he asked for a raise, and that’s when the number of €31,5 million came out. With that kind of money, Ronaldo expected to receive a clean €15 million per year. Unfortunately,  it is doubtedly that the club will pay for that kind of money in a year just for 1 player.

The option for Real Madrid is not to renew the contract with Ronaldo, which mean they only pay for €10 million or €15,5 million plus tax until his contract ends in 2015. The bad part is that in 3 years, Ronaldo can leave the club free of charge. But still,  this way they will save around €45 million, with the asumption of €15 million extra tax per year.

Of course, if Madrid rejects Ronaldo’s offer for a raise, then no wonder that the Portuguese star felt unwanted. However, Ronaldo proved that he is a professional player, and that the personal problem won’t disrupt his performance on the pitch by scoring 2 goals.

The question is, will Real Madrid change their mind and grant Ronaldo’s wish for a raise ? Is he really worth the price ? With all his goals and his achievements for the club, then yes, I think he is worth it. Come on, lets face the fact that Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now, but he only came on the 6th list for the highest paid footballer. Here are the list :

1. Samuel Eto’o                            €20 million

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic              €14,5 million

3. Wayne Rooney                       €12,3 million

4. Didier Drogba                         €12 million

5. Lionel Messi                            €10,5 million

6. Cristiano Ronaldo                €10 million

By the list above, even Ibrahimovic gets bigger money, and he’s no wizard in football, imo…. So, is it wrong for Ronaldo to ask for more money ? Does it mean he’s greedy ? Nope, he’s just asking for the salary that he deserves.

During his visits in Thailand, Cristiano Ronaldo took his time for an interview in Thailand Morning News show. The interview was a bit weird and awkward because not only the interviewer didn’t seem ready with the questions, (their question wasn’t organized at all as it was jumping from personal, football questions, etc ) they were also having the interview in like 4 different languages – Thai, English, Spain, and Portuguese.

It was strange that they asked Ronaldo in all 3 different kind of languages, so Im guessing even Ronaldo was confused by it. They should make up their mind whether they want it to be English interview or Spain, but most of it…. they need to find a better interpreter. Luckily, Ronaldo was smart and chose to answer all questions in English.

Anyway, I just put it together nicely so it won’t be too weird to read, don’t know if it was the right translation of the question (since they asked in Thai, Spain and Portuguese ) , but here it goes :

How’s you holiday ?

“Brilliant. I was in Thailand for 12 days and enjoyed it. The weather is fantastic, the food is good, the people are very nice with me, so I’m very happy and proud to be here “

The interviewer showed picture of Ronaldo and Irina taken with local people, and asked him about the picture.

“They were waiting for me because we have to take off by helicopter, and the people were there. I saw them and I asked them to take picture  because  I think it was amazing, I enjoy a lot, like a family.”

How many island  you have visited ?

“A few. We went to Phi Phi island, where they shot James Bond’s movie and also where Di Caprio onced made the movie. All of it fantastic. The water is warm, I really enjoyed it and someday I will return.”

We saw you fishing. Did you catch any fish?

“Yes, we went fishing. There were so many kind of fish. I also tried fishing with a string, and felt how the fish got the bait. I liked it.

How do you feel About Representing Toyota Product ?

“For me it was a pleasure because it’s a great company. I joined them since 2010, so it’s great. I enjoyed to be part of the successfull company because the champs have to be together. The company is the champ, and I’m champ too.”(smiled)

Ok, now focus on the football. About the Euro 2012 semi-finals, why did you take the last penalty ?

“It’s just the decision. I remembered when I’m in Madrid against Bayern Munich, I also made the first penalty and I lost. So I took the decision to take the shoot on the fifth, but anything can happen. They say why didn’t you shoot the first one, second…or third …it’s just a decision, feelings. The penalty is about lucky, not the best thing wins.”

So it’s your decision to shoot the last ?

“Yes, it was my decision.”

What is your proudest moment in Real Madrid ?

“I think the best moment so far is to win La liga. It’s the most difficult league in the world in my opinion, because our strongest opponent is Barcelona and we won 9 points ahead them, it was fantastic.”

How many goals you have in La liga and the whole season ?

“In the league I scored 46, in total, I don’t know to be honest….”

As for the visitor Real Madrid, they only need 1 more victory to ensure their place as the winner of Spanish league Title this season. So a victory tonight will be an early celebration for them, and a draw can only give a slight hope for rival Barcelona.

Based on head to head statistic, Real Madrid recorded 4 victories in the last 4 meetings. Real Madrid even made an  impressive goal record of 17 goals on Bilbao, while only let them to conceived 3 goals. The last time Bilbao have defeated Madrid was in January 2012 with a close victory ove 1-0.

Over the midweek, Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, with a goal from Mario Gomez breaking the deadlock after Frank Ribery and Mesut Ozil had scored. Barcelona too returned to Spain empty handed after being frustrated by Chelsea who scored via Didier Drogba and virtually defended for the rest of the game.

Surely wins for either team would have made it easier for them to prepare for what could be the most important match of the season for both. And with chances of a super El Clasico deciding who will rein supreme in Europe still high, this match is not about a regular win/loss situation.
