Cristiano Ronaldo may have plenty more playing years ahead of him, but the 32-year-old is already starting to think about life after football – revealing that he harbours an ambition to star in Hollywood films.
Before you start dreaming of CR7 as 007, though, the Portuguese superstar has plenty of other post-retirement plans, including being behind the camera as well as in front of it.
“I’d like to make movies, I have my hotels, my gyms, my clothing partnership with Nike… I see myself as a businessman,” the Ballon d’Or winner told Alessandro del Piero in an interview for Sky Italia. “Right now, I am focused on what I am doing, although clearly, I know that sooner or later the moment to retire will come.”
It isn’t the first time the star has been linked to Hollywood; after the release of a feature-length documentary based on his life, Ronaldo, in 2005, Cristiano admitted that he was intrigued by the prospect of acting. He is quoted as saying: “I would like to learn being surrounded by good actors because only then will I learn since it is an area I do not control because it has nothing to do with football… do not close the doors because it is an area which I like.”
The 32-year-old’s stardom has already been cemented away from the pitch due to his philanthropic activities and foray into fashion design; he owns two CR7-branded fashion boutiques in Portugal and has lent his likeness and name to numerous clothing, fragrance and underwear lines.
The Real Madrid number seven concluded: “My life after football will be beautiful, I’m sure – and I don’t mean with money, but with the pleasure of doing other things.”
