Manchester United’s Portuguese Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo continues to dominate the world of football after being selected in Fifa’s Best XI of 2008. The results were based on a worldwide survey conducted on FIFA.com.
The reigning World Player of the Year was emphatically elected with 52% of the votes ahead of Lionel Messi. Both complete the line of strikers upfront in a selection that had almost no surprises.
Spanish players filled most of the places with Xavi, Puyol, and Sergio Ramos all included in the squad.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player in the team to represent the current EPL, Champions League, and Fifa World Club Cup titleholders Manchester United, after team mates Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand failed to beat the likes of Philip Lahm, and of Carlos Puyol and John Terry respectively.
Cristiano Ronaldo is still locked to 101 goals for the Red Devils and he is yet to celebrate his latest Fifa nominations and award with a goal.
Controversial officiating prevented him to do so, though, against rivals Chelsea earlier in the month when the referee ruled out his two goals. League leaders Manchester United play Derby County at home tonight in the second leg of their semi final clash. The Reds need to overturn a 1-0 deficit and Ronaldo could be the answer to United’s quest, if he indeed features in the match.
