Real Madrid: No Ronaldo for Portugal

Ronaldo named Captain of Portugal Team

Ronaldo for Portugal

Portugal and Liechtenstein lock horns in a friendly game on Wednesday but Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature for his country. The 24 year old national team captain is reported to have contracted flu according to his new club Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, who seemed to be in a good shape against DC United and Toronto FC last week, has not travelled for the encounter as Madrid claim that the lad is too weak to make the trip.

However, this report from the Spanish giants has strongly been slammed by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). In Record, the president of the federation, Gilberto Madial, stated:

“The way that they communicated the news to us was not the correct way.”

Like Madial, Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz also expressed doubts towards Ronaldo’s flu. The former Real Madrid manager declared:

“The Federation are going to study the situation. The information arrived late and was not clear – stating that the player ‘could not travel today’ certainly created doubts.”

It is certainly hard for people to be convinced by Real Madrid’s excuse for not letting their 94 million euro signing play in a clash against a ‘tiny’ team.

A vast majority of the public may build their opinion on this issue over Record’s statements:

“The official version put out by Real Madrid, which stated that the player had ‘flu symptoms’, did not convince anyone,

“Real Madrid sent a fax to the Federation on the day [Monday] and it was not until they were asked to explain that a second fax arrived claiming the player was at home recovering upon the recommendation of the club’s doctors because he had flu symptoms.”
