Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, who he feels is a more “complete” player than Lionel Messi. Kohli will know what comes with being an elite athlete. He captains a national side and carries the hopes of over one billion people as cricket is the most-followed and talked about sport in the South Asian nation.
Like Ronaldo, who is considered to be arguably the best footballer of the modern generation, Kohli is also considered to be arguably the best batsman in modern-day cricket. He placed seventh on ESPN’s World Fame 100 last year ahead of Rafael Nadal (eighth), Tiger Woods (tenth) and Lewis Hamilton (21st). Kohli also became the fastest batsman to reach 10 000 ODI runs which he did after just 205 innings.
Discussing who is better between Ronaldo and Messi, Kohli said as quoted by FIFA.com: “Ronaldo. In my opinion he has taken on more challenges and succeeded at all of them. He’s the most complete player I have seen and his work ethic, as I mentioned, is unmatched. He inspires people. I don’t think many people do that. He’s also a leader and I love that. Absolutely love it. He has amazing belief too.”
Kohli is a huge football fan
Some critics of Kohli may argue that he might not know what he is talking about as he comes from a nation where football is not really a major Sport. While that may be true, the superstar batsman is a staunch football supporter and even mentioned that apart from CR7, some of his other favourite footballers included the likes of Brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Oliver Kahn, Luka Modric, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and even Lionel Messi.
It is amazing how Ronaldo maintains his form and desire to succeed at his age
Ronaldo is now 34-years-old. He is the same age that the legendary Zinedine Zidane was when he retired from professional football back in 2006. Most players his age including his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney are now winding down their careers in less physically demanding Leagues. Ronaldo, however, maintains a high level of form and still wants to win major trophies including the Champions League and World Cup.
