Ronaldo had to cop a fair amount of criticism after blunt performances against Germany and Denmark in Portugal’s opening two games, with rumblings of international retirement being banded about in the press. After a record-setting domestic season with Real Madrid expectations on the ex-Manchester United forward have gone through the roof, as Portugal rely on the attacker heavily to provide a cutting-edge in the last third. As his personal battle with Lionel Messi wages on, if CR7 can captain the Iberian nation to an unlikely tournament victory he would surely command the Ballon d’Or trophy once more, and do something that the Barcelona man has failed to; succeed on the international scene.

Ronaldo’s name is likely to go down alongside some of the greats when he hangs up his boots, but inspiring an unfancied Portugal team to glory in Ukraine and Poland would be a monumental achievement. Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal against Czech Republic in the Euro 2012 quarter final round last night onced again crowned him as Man of the match. He managed to show his consistency to help the team after his previous 2 goals against Netherlands in the Group stage match.

Although he missed a few of golden opportunities to score, he didn’t give up on trying, and grabbed the chance almost 10 minutes before the match ended.

“Our priority is to made it to the semi-finals, and we are happy for it. We know the next match will be difficult, but I’m confident and ready to fight,”said Ronaldo after he received the award.

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally able to prove his existancy  by  scoring 2 goals in Euro 2012 competition. The goals were created when Portugal had their last Group B stage match against Netherlands. With his 2 goals, Portugal managed to enter the quarter final round and will be facing Czech Republic next June 21st.

Besides that, Cristiano Ronaldo also grabbed a new record as the 7th player to score 2 goals in 3 Euro competition. Before, Ronaldo also scored 2 goals in Euro 2004 and 2008. Along with Ronaldo, there are also famous footballer names such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thierry Henry, Vladimir Smicer, Jurgen Klinsmann, Nuno Gomes and Helder Postiga. The last 2 names are his team mates in Portugal team.

And that wasn’t all. Cristiano Ronaldo wrote a phenomenal achievement by being the first Portuguese player that scored goal in the last 5 big competition, including World Cup and Euro Championship. His name were on WC 2006 and 2010 goal scorer list.

Until now, only German legendary player Klinsmann who made a goal in 6 matches of World class competition.

With the goals, Ronaldo now collects 34 goals, and has overcome Luis Figo’s goal record.

But for the 2 goals he created, Cristiano Ronaldo thanked his Portugal teammates for their support. He also dedicated the goals for his son, who had his second birthday on the same day with Portugal’s match.

“We made it, and I dedicated the man of the match for my son. Thank you for all of the support,” said Ronaldo.

Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Denmark last night came in as a very close one. The goal from Silvestre Varela, a substitute player, saved the team from leaving early from the Euro 2012 competition. Valera’s name quickly became the spotlight as he mentioned as the team’s saviour, as well as Pepe and Helder Postiga’s name. Unfortunately, for Cristiano Ronaldo, rather then getting a praise for his performance, the media mentioned him as a flop of the match.

Before the game started, Cristiano Ronaldo was considered as the most important player that carried out the burden for the whole team. However, he failed to answer their hope, as his performance was rather disappointing and missed at least 3 golden chances.

His best moment was at minute 77th, where he had a face to face opportunity with Denmark’s goalkeeper in an open shot. But the ball was too wide on the right, and that was the best shot he had until the game ended.

At minute 49th, Cristiano Ronaldo actually had the similar chance with Stephan Andersen, the goalie. But somehow the Portugal captain failed to finish it into a goal.

And at the injury time, rather then creating more goal opportunity, Cristiano Ronaldo received  a yellow card. And until the match ended, he failed to present a pleasing performance for the national team. And to sum it up, the Real Madrid’s forward made another mistake in an interview after the match. Not happy by being pointed out as the flop of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo made a comparison with his rival Messi .

“Last year at this time Messi was eliminated from the Copa America and also playing at home. That’s worse, right? I’m here fighting to move to the next phase of the Euro”, stated Ronaldo to the media.

No doubt the press will use this against him.
