A strong suit: Which Real player would be King of the club?

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about his love of gambling in the past, but did you know some of his colleagues at Real Madrid also like to bet?

A deck of playing cards can be the rise or fall of a gambler, with poker players longing for the rare Royal Flush. If Ronaldo and other Real stars were playing cards, which would they be? Let’s take a look and find out!

Queen Ancelotti

Ruling the roost at Real is the Queen – Carlo Ancelotti. One of the most successful football managers of all time, Ancelotti will secure his reputation as one of the greatest in history if he can help his club to defend the European Cup, something no team has done for 25 years. Ancelotti has already won Europe’s premier club competition on three occasions. He is universally loved and a popular figure with fans of all clubs due to his hilarious sense of humour and comically arched eyebrows.

King Ronaldo

There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is the King, towering over the pack thanks to his incredible quality and unbelievable goal-scoring record. Since arriving at Real Madrid in a massive transfer deal from Manchester United, Ronaldo has scored 219 league goals for his club in just 198 appearances, making him undoubtedly one of the best players in the world.

Ronaldo also holds various records, backing up his position as the King, including his title as the all-time top scorer in the UEFA European Championship. He currently has the second-most goals in Champions League history, and is just one goal behind his great rival, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. Ronaldo is known to love gambling and once stated in an interview: “I’m a target for casinos and I get invited to celebrity tournaments. But I prefer to play online or among friends.”

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale is the Jack in the pack – one of the most versatile cards and a vital option for Ancelotti’s Real as they chase the La Liga and European Cup titles. The last season has been a tough one for the Welsh international and he has sometimes struggled to find his place at the Bernabeu, but there is no doubting his usefulness and his amazing goal in last year’s Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona was proof of his huge quality. Bale is the Jack because of his trickster reputation; his skill on the ball certainly makes him an apt choice for this card.

Wildcard Sergio Ramos – Joker

Who else could be the Joker but Sergio Ramos? Since joining Real from Sevilla in 2005 he has been one of the club’s most important players, collecting an amazing ten club medals, as well as being a crucial part of the Spain team that won three successive international tournaments. Ramos is a risk-taker and his aggressive style of play, love of bullfighting and ability to contribute vital goals at key moments makes him the perfect choice to be our Joker in the pack.
