The big question is, will Ronaldo play and if so, what impact will he have on the game?

Our friends over at matched betting service Profit Accumulator have given us an overview of his chances of starting and also an assessment as to the impact he might have (if he does play).

Is he injured?

Cristiano only managed to play the first 45 mins of Real Madrid’s last El Clasico with Barcelona. He was substituted at half-time with a suspected ankle injury.

It’s unclear whether this is a recurrence of an old injury, or a new one – but all Real fans will be holding their breath to see if he is fit to start the biggest match in club football.

The good news is that his manager Zinedine Zidane has said that he will be at ‘150%’.

Last Thursday, Zidane said this:

“Everyone will be okay for the final – Cristiano, Isco and Carvajal. Cristiano is the one who will be out longest, as it just happened two days ago. But he is good, he’s walking normally. It’s incredible that he’s already walking. That shows his ambition, his desire to play. We do not know when he will be back with the group, or if he will be back for Villarreal, but it would be perfect to have everyone ready for that final La Liga game. Nobody will have any problems for the final, they will all be at 150%.”

What will his impact be if he does play?

Ronaldo is often considered to be the best player in the world, or at the very least a close second to Messi.

His record in the Champions League is unrivalled and he holds many records. Here are some of the Champions league records that Cristiano currently holds:

• 4 Champions League winners medals.
• Featured in 5 Champions League finals. A feat bettered only by Maldini, who has 6.
• Record number of Champions League goals: 116
• Record number of Champions League final goals: 4

That’s just a selection of his records as well, there are numerous more. It’s safe to say that he is a big game player, so he will definitely have an impact.

Who are favourites to win the final?

Madrid are chasing their third successive Champions League crown, having become the only team to successfully defend the prize since the new format of the competition was introduced in 1992-93. The last team to win the European Cup three times in succession was Bayern Munich between 1974-76.

The odds are currently in their favour. Madrid are 8/11 favourites to win, whilst Liverpool are 23/17 to win. On the night, though, anything can happen. Liverpool have had an impressive run so far, knocking out some big teams… but then, again so have Madrid.

Experience may well play a big part in who wins and if that’s the case, Real have the upper hand. Not least because of Ronaldo. He really is a trendsetter when it comes to Champions League statistics.

In those 152 matches, Ronaldo has scored an astonishing 120 goals – 20 more than close rival Lionel Messi. You just cannot argue against Ronaldo’s Champions League record.

Prior to Real Madrid’s semi-final first leg victory over Bayern Munich, Ronaldo had scored in 11 consecutive Champions League matches. He has bagged 15 European goals in 2018/19 alone and he could feature prominently in the final.

Real booked their spot in the showpiece for the third year in a row; Ronaldo scored twice in last season’s final against Juventus and scored the winning penalty in the shootout with Atletico Madrid in 2016.

There is a real affinity between Ronaldo and this competition; he relishes the opportunity to step up on the biggest stage of all. Quite often, the best players in the business fail to shine in the Champions League but not Ronaldo.

The Portugal star holds many European records, including most goals in a single season (17 back in 2013/14) and the joint-most Champions League final victories with four. Ronaldo now has a chance to rewrite the history books and win the coveted trophy for the fifth time.

Ronaldo had to deal with his fair share of criticism earlier this season; the Portuguese scored in just two of Real’s first 10 league games – Zinedine Zidane’s men were slow to get going in the 2017/18 La Liga title race.

With 25 goals in his previous 16 European games, Ronaldo is likely to play a pivotal role for Real in the Kyiv showpiece on May 26^th. The Portugal star was quiet against Bayern, especially in the second leg. According to Opta, Ronaldo had 14 touches in the first half of that second leg – fewer than anybody else on the pitch. That won’t be happening again in the final; you can be sure of that.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a once-in-a-lifetime footballer. The Champions League is his playground and football fans from all over the globe will be expecting Ronaldo to shine in the final. If he plays at his brilliant best, Real Madrid will be very difficult to beat.

This friendship was demonstrated following Real Madrid’s triumph against Juventus in the Champions League last week to reach the semi-finals of this season’s tournament. Los Blancos are now 2/1 favourites in the Sports Betting Markets to win European football’s elite prize.

With Juve 3-0 up going into second-half stoppage time, it looked as if we were going to have another Champions League classic on our hands after Madrid won the first leg 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, it was Ronaldo’s spot-kick that led to Madrid advancing after Mehdi Benatia was penalised for his challenge on Lucas Vazquez.

The 40-year-old Buffon was furious at referee Michael Oliver’s decision to award a spot-kick and was awarded with a red card for showing dissent. Buffon made his frustrations known after the game, even going on to say that Oliver has a “garbage bin” in place of his heart.

It easy to see why Buffon is upset. This is in all probability the Italian legend’s last ever season as a professional footballer.  However, the keeper can still play at the highest level as he has proven this season and following his decision to come out of international retirement and play for Italy during the latest international break, one would not put it past Buffon to play for one more season.

Throughout his career, the Champions League winner’s medal is also one that has eluded him. He has been a losing finalist three times in his career, in 2003, 2015 and 2017.

Ronaldo: ‘I have a lot of respect for Buffon’

Buffon appeared to be calmer after Ronaldo appeared and interrupted one of his interviews, offering his condolences. The 33-year-old reportedly told the Italian: “I am sorry.”

Ronaldo also went on to praise the 2006 World Cup winner Buffon for being one of the greats of the game and expressed hope that the match would not have been his last Champions League appearance. “I have a lot of respect for Buffon, the words he has said about me, and what I’ve said about him,” Ronaldo told RTP.

“He is a great goalkeeper and I hope this is not his last Champions League appearance, he is one of the best goalkeepers ever.”

Manchester United have been drawn against Real Madrid in the stand-out tie of the Champions League last 16. The match will see Cristiano Ronaldo return to Old Trafford for the first time since his £80m move from United to Madrid in 2009 and will also pit Sir Alex Ferguson against José Mourinho.

Britain’s two other representatives, Arsenal and Celtic, have also been handed tough draws. Arsenal will face last season’s beaten finalists Bayern Munich while Celtic take on the Italian champions Juventus as they look for a place in the quarter-finals.

United have a slight advantage over Madrid in that as group winners they will get to play the second leg at home. Arsenal and Celtic, who were group runners-up, will both play their second legs away.

The most eye-catching tie not involving British sides is that of Barcelona v Milan, while the German champions Borussia Dortmund face Shakhtar Donetsk, Valencia play Paris St-Germain, Porto meet the Spanish side Málaga and Galatasaray come up against Schalke.

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United, but it was another Ronaldo – the Brazilian striker – who took the headlines when the clubs last faced each other in 2003, scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford as Madrid went through 6-5 on aggregate.

The United defender Rio Ferdinand reacted to the draw on Twitter , saying: “Oh yes, Madrid!! What a great couple a games that’ll be!! @Cristiano  see u soon bro!!”

For 3 whole year with Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to add another Balon D’Or trophy in his collection. It was hard enough to watch Lionel Messi walked away with the title, but for him to win it 3 consecutive years just unbearable. This year, hopefully it will be different. Why ? Because finally, his well performance has helped Los Blancos  in stopping Barcelona’s domination in Spanish league.

The question is, was it enough ?

Since he joined Real Madrid, he had a bit hard time to overcome the European football competition. 3 years now and still no Champions league title.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s personal record in Champions League competition last season was actually far from disappointing. He collected 10 goals,  and helped Real Madrid to reach the semi-finals round. But once again, he lost to Lionel Messi who became CL top scorer by grabbing 14 goals.

Luckily this year, Cristiano Ronaldo has an advantage to overcome Messi through his national team. With the help of his performance in Euro 2012,  Cristiano Ronaldo has bigger chance to win Balon D’ Or.  Let’s face it, although Portugal didn’t make it to the final, Ronaldo succeeded to fill the expectation as a captain and reached the semi-finals.

But still, to win his second Balon D’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo needs  more than just number of goals.  He needs to improve his skill with the team, and work a bit on his attitude on the pitch.

Cristiano Ronaldo onced became unstoppable when it comes to a penalty kick execution. But recently,  the Portugal captain is starting to lose his “magic” feet. Near the end of season 2011/12 , Ronaldo has failed a number of penalty shot, and most of it, the failure came right in a critical moment. The question is, will it affect his performance in the Euro 2012 duel against Germany, who’s known as the team with it’s best penalty executors?

According to Volkan Demirel, Turkey’s goal keeper, Ronaldo’s penalty shot was becoming predictable. Against Turkey in the last friendly match, Ronaldo once again failed to execute the penalty kick. Demirel pointed that after observing Ronaldo’s failed penalty against Bayern Muenchen at the last Champions League, that Ronaldo intends to direct the ball to the left side.

With the failed penalty, Ronaldo who was expected to open the chance for the team has clearly dropped the spirit of the team. Just like what happened in the Champions League semi-final.  Madrid has failed to enter the final as the other players have lost their confidence after Ronaldo’s flunked during the  execution.

Of course, against German next Saturday, there’s chance Ronaldo will have to do another penalty shot. And hopefully, he will succeeded in the  end.

But then it became such a disappointment after Barcelona and Real Madrid got kicked out in the semi finals. And as shocking as it was, the crucial match happened at their own home ground, where they usually become every football  club’s nightmare.

Both their top players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi each have failed in a matter of life penalty shot. True, in football anything could happen. Even hundreds of million euros can’t help any club from getting the dream Trophy.

What makes it unbearable to face, is that both team were showing a great expectation in the group match. Madrid succeeded in getting a perfect point, while Barcelona only lost 2 points after a draw over AC Milan.

So what could go wrong ? Could they just under-estimate the underdog team that is apparently showed their true power in the important match ?

Or maybe it was because they have put too much mind and energy in the Spanish league competition that they barely have left for the Champions League ?

No matter what answer we could find, it proves that in football, creativity and mentality is the most important, more than just  match statistics. Chelsea and Bayern Munich both can proudly enter the finals simply because they are willing to take risk and put on different strategy in facing the most powerful team, as well as showing a strong mental and confidence.

The proves can be seen when both Real Madrid and Barcelona, despite showing their domination in the match, they kept on making mistakes due to frustration that finally become the advantage from the opponents.
