The Portuguese is favorite to win the award for the second time in his career based on his record 69 goals and 17 Assists this year for club and country in the calendar year, with Franck Ribery and four-time winner Lionel Messi also in the reckoning.

Cristiano Ronaldo has clinched two trophies within 48 hours to add to the growing, glowing collection in his personal museum opened last week in his birthplace  Madeira, Portugal. Along with the Globe Soccer Award, which he garnered 58% of the votes to Messi’s 9% to win, the forward has also been presented with the Man of the Year award by Portuguese sports magazine A’ Bola.

When asked if he thought he deserved to win the 2013 Ballon d’Or?, He told A’ Bola:

“I don’t know if I deserve to win it this year. I’ve been in the top three for the last six years and in the FIFApro Team of the Year for the last seven or eight, so I really have nothing more to add.

“My numbers speak for themselves. What I’ve achieved, in some way, is key to winning individual awards.”

“Do I deserve to win it? Maybe I deserved to win it last year or the year before. I’d like to win the Ballon d’Or every year i nominated. I like winning everything, but I know that it doesn’t depend on me. I’d like to win it, but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, that’s just life.”

The winner is scheduled to be announced at FIFA Ballon d’Or gala in Zurich on 15th January.

Cristiano Ronaldo the A’ Bola Man of the Year also discussed the friction that existed between himself and former Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho, saying he would not mind to work with him again.

“I forgive everybody,” said Ronaldo.I forgive everyone . I never had a confrontation, you’ll never hear me speak ill of anyone . It is what I have done so far and will continue doing. I’m not upset. All I want is to succeed.

Today at the Dubai’s 8th International Sports Conference, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded with Globe Soccer Best Player of the Year Fan Favorite Award.

In an interview at the Dubai International Sports Conference, Cristiano spoke about his own goals and the pressure that comes with being one of the best players in the world.

“You have to be strong and focused in everything you do. Sometimes I like living with the pressure.

“It’s always going to be tough to break my own records.

“It will not be easy to fulfill my goals, I know it will be tough but I’ll try. If you do not try, you do not meet your goals.”

Cristiano went on to discuss the Portuguese national team and their chances in the 2014 World Cup, as well as the Spanish national team.

“Portugal are not the favourites and that gives us an advantage.

“They deserve everything they’ve won because they are the best.  Why haven’t they won all those titles earlier? Who knows, that’s football.  I hope that in the future Portugual’s day will come just as Spain’s has.”

Cristiano then discussed who is favourite players was, jokingly stating that he was his own favourite.

“Apart from me, just kidding, just kidding I do not have a favorite player in the world, there are a lot of great footballers in the world.  I like playing alongside great footballers, like my teammates at Real Madrid and I also like to play against great players too.”

Cristiano Ronaldo talking about his Career, Real Madrid and Ballon d’Or

I would work with Mou again,  like I would with other coaches I had, like Ferguson, Boloni or Pellegrini. They were coaches with whom learned a lot, they gave  me the opportunity to evolve as a person and player. Forgive Mou ? I forgive everyone . Ballon d’Or? I do not know if I deserve it this year. I’ve been on the podium for 6 years , this is the 7th or 8th year in the ideal 11 of FIFPro … so I don’t have anything else to say. The numbers speak for themselves. What I have done is very important for individual awards.  If I deserve to win? Maybe, like the last year or two years ago. I think I deserve to win the Golden Ball each year . I always like to win , but I know it does not depend on me. I’d like to win, but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.

All great players have an influence on the team. So only the best, the top, the better paid, better known have influence, because they mark the difference. They do it in moments of the game that the team needs. I do not think I carry the team. Madrid does not and cannot depend on a single player. I help, do my job , which is what I have to do, give my best and help the team , so I feel good . But I don’t think Real Madrid depends on one player. The team is very good and there are great players.

Barcelona and Atletico have been more regular than us. But La Liga is still long and what counts is the end. I hope that Real Madrid can be first by then.

All titles are important and it would be unfair of me to pick one. Collectively titles are very important, all of the ones you menioned are important. I just look forward to getting individual titles and collective ones.

Bale is adapting very well. He was having difficulties because he got here without a preseason and had a lot of pressure. Also the language is a great difficulty. But he is a useful player, a great player who will help us a lot.

Ronaldo is the clear front-runner and a cursory glance at the statistics reveals exactly why. For one thing, he has scored 69 goals, more than his two rivals combined, in 2013. This season he has struck an average of 1.5 goals per game and set a Champions League group stage record of scoring nine goals. He has also overtaken Pauleta and Eusebio as Portugal’s all-time top goalscorer. Ronaldo has produced arguably the individual performance of the season too, even if Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez may offer counter arguments. But certainly no one has displayed as high a level of quality when the stakes have been as high as Ronaldo did in the World Cup qualifying playoff against Sweden in November. It is worth recalling that performance.

Having scored the only goal of the first leg, Portugal had a useful lead to defend in Sweden. Ronaldo put the Portuguese in front after latching onto a Joao Moutinho through ball to fire a convincing finish home. After Ibrahimovic had made his own claim to be the world’s best player of the moment, scoring a stylish quick-fire brace to put Sweden on the verge of the World Cup, Ronaldo took centre stage once again. He found himself through on goal from Hugo Almeida’s ball over the top, and  he his left-footed finish was that of a man determined that he was going to be in Brazil next summer as part of the show, rather than a spectator. Just after that, Ronaldo made another super run and scored his 3rd goal, second hattrick for Portugal in his career.
Hattrick at that big stage, helping his team single handly to  go through World cup is special from the real madrid star.

As we know Ballon d’Or is given on the individual performance, Ronaldo is far ahead than his two rivals to win it. On January 15, In Zurich, It’s More likely to be Ronaldo is going to hold the Ballon d’Or 2013. It will the second time for the portugese to win the World Player of the Year in his career.

Ronaldo the best

Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t perform as well as in the 2007/2008 season where his 42 goals powered Manchester United to domestic and European success.

All the same, Ronaldo enjoyed cup success as Manchester went on to defend their English Premier League title. He also won the Carling Cup and the Fifa World Club Cup trophy.

Good memories also recall Cristiano Ronaldo’s great contribution in the Champions League last season. In the quarter-finals, the Portugal captain scored a mesmerizing goal from 40 yards as Manchester United went on to break Porto’s record at the Estadio do Dragao. In the second leg of the semi-finals against Arsenal, it was almost a similar story. Cristiano Ronaldo scored two wonderful goals and made an assist as the Red Devils marched onto the final.

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo was on the losing side in Rome when Barcelona were crowned champions of Europe for the third time in history. Now if you ask who is better than Cristiano Ronaldo, many will voice out names like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Iniesta, and even Ibrahimovic – despite the fact that Ronaldo’s header contributed in Inter Milan’s exit from the Champions League last season.

Well, opinions should be respected, that is for sure. No war of words, no fights…

But for me, as much as some regard Ronaldinho as the best in football, I regard Cristiano Ronaldo as someone who has injected more excitment in the sport.

His flicks and tricks are special. It was rare to see people doing back heels in football until Cristiano Ronaldo popularized it. He even scored with a back heel; and that was against Aston Villa in 2008.

His free-kicks are breathtaking. Ronaldo has proven several times that he can score from any angle. The star winger is able to convert a free-kick from any distance, no matter where the wall is constructed. His famous free-kicks against Portsmouth, Arsenal, or even Sporting Lisbon tells it all.

Well, I could go on and on with the list of things that Ronaldo can do…

Now my curiosity pushes me far… How will Cristiano Ronaldo and his new team Real Madrid fare next season?

Barcelona and Manchester United clash against each other in the final of the Champions League in exactly one weekâ€s time.

The Worldâ€s best player, Cristiano Ronaldo, may have the opportunity to reclaim his individual awards by helping Manchester United trample Lionel Messiâ€sBarcelona when both affront themselves at the Stadio Olimpico.

But the Argentine playmaker insists that though everyone portrays the Champions League final as a battle between the worldâ€s two best players, the game is still very much and will be a team battle between Barcelona and Manchester United.

“Nobody plays to be the best player in the world. This is a team game. I donâ€t see it as a tussle between Cristiano and me. It will be a Barca-Manchester battle,” Messi was quoted as saying to the media.

Lionel Messi is currently being considered as the worldâ€s best player and snatching Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s titles is very much a possibility. The decisive moment which might put an end to the long-running Messi-v-Ronaldo debates will be the final in Rome.

However, Lionel Messi – who refuses to enter in a challenge against Cristiano Ronaldo – prefers to focus on team success.

“What is important is that Barcelona are champions of Europe on May 27 in Rome.

“If we are champions it will certainly help me, but this is secondary.”

On the other side, Manchester Unitedâ€s number 7 Superstar has also constantly explained that he hated it when the public try and put him into an individual duel in big games. But the 24-year-old, who is avid of individual prizes, is also keen on playing excellent football and power Manchester United to glory.

Aside the Fifa World Club Cup trophy, the Red Devils have already got the Carling Cup and the English Premiership trophies in their bags. They could make it three cups won in 2009 if they defeat Barcelona in the final of the Champions League.

However, Lionel Messi is also eying an unprecedented treble for the Catalans as a Spanish team.

“I want the Treble. We will be the best Barcelona of all time and weâ€re 90 minutes away from doing that.

“Itâ€s an opportunity to write ourselves in the history books.”

The Argentine forward was rested for Barcelonaâ€s trip to Mallorca in the weekend – which the Blaugrana lost 2-1. Coach Pep Guardiola may opt to keep his ace out of the field of play until the great battle in Rome. Reflecting on this issue, Messi stated:

“I donâ€t know how Iâ€m going to spend all those days without being able to play — it seems ages just thinking about it.

“But I will come back with batteries fully charged and I will be at the top of my game in Rome.
“Weâ€re giving it everything weâ€ve got. The team is focused.”

Certainly, Manchester United will have to be at their very best to shut down Barcelonaâ€s flow and flood of goals that have disgraced and cut down several opponents this term.

Saturdayâ€s lunch time kick-off showcased the Premier Leagueâ€s most awaited clash of the year – also considered as the title decider – featuring hosts Manchester United and Rafael Benitezâ€s Liverpool.

Wayne Rooney had revealed his hatred against the Merseyside Reds in the build up to this titanic game while football editors were relishing a battle between Unitedâ€s rock in defense Nemanja Vidic and Liverpoolâ€s Spanish sensation Fernando Torres aka El Nino.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave the Red Devils a perfect start on 23 minutes after Ji-Sung Park was fouled inside the box. The World Player of the Year stepped up and fired the ball at the back of the net, sending keeper Pepe Reina inches away from catching the ball. This was Ronaldoâ€s second goal in the week – after scoring against Inter Milan in midweek – and thirteenth goal in the Premiership, putting him still on course to retain his Golden Boot award.

But instead of holding on to this lead, the Red Champions emphatically lost the plot, allowing Torres to cancel Ronaldo strike five minutes later. Captain ‘Planet†Steven Gerrard then put Liverpool in the lead just before half-time through a penalty.

Manchester United were desperate to turn things around in the second half and Liverpool seemed to feel the pressure at that point in time. Rafaâ€s men kept conceding free-kicks over free-kicks; Cristiano Ronaldo and co always came close to troubling the reigning Golden Glove winner Pepe Reina, but their efforts were never enough to deceive him.

Liverpool pressed on, searching to inflict on Manchester United the same sorrow they put on Real Madrid earlier in the week. And Aurelio just got the perfect touch; his rocket free-kick – created by Vidicâ€s foul on Gerrard for which he saw red – stunned Van der Sar who had previously inscribed a record run of clean sheets at Old Trafford in all competitions since November 1. Liverpool were leading 3-1.

The Merseyside Reds werenâ€t satisfied yet; their will to torture defending champions Manchester United was still very much on.
Dossena completed the score line on 90 minutes, meaning that Liverpool had handed Manchester United their heaviest defeat since losing 3-0 away to AC Milan in 2007.

Rafael Benitezâ€s 100th Premier League win came at the right time for Liverpool. The Mancunians†archrivals are back in the title race. The EPL trophy is not as secured for the Red Devils as it seemed to be before the game.

Winning the quintuple is doable, but finishing the season miserably is also a realistic – although pessimist – possibility. Manchester United are yet to know their fate in the FA Cup and in the Champions League, while theyâ€ve now got everything to play for in the league.

If Cristiano Ronaldo was able to end last season scooping almost every individual award, it is because Manchester United were good enough to protect his influence. Now, after Saturdayâ€s game where Ronaldo gave the lead to his side that eventually lost emphatically, there are doubts over Unitedâ€s ability to hold on till the end and emulate what they did last year.

In terms of individual play, Cristiano Ronaldo has been good enough since his return from injury. However, the Portuguese winger certainly isnâ€t as wonderful as he was last season and with a strong contender like Lionel Messi for this seasonâ€s awards, clinching at least a treble has become imperative for Ronaldo to beat off the likes of any challenger.

The question, though, remains:

Can Manchester United help Cristiano Ronaldo to retain his crowns?

Fifaâ€s 2008 Player of the Year also known as the guy who scored 42 goals last season and better known as Cristiano Ronaldo was Manchester United best man last year, influencing the Red Devils to a double.

After reacting negatively during the Madrid transfer saga earlier last summer, Manchester United fans found it difficult to welcome back the young Portuguese. However, Ferguson would always be on Ronaldoâ€s side and ask the supporters to take him as he is: a great star and a regretful prodigal son.

But have Manchester United fans really forgiven Cristiano Ronaldo?

In addition to the fact that the “Viva Ronaldo” anthem is no more echoed amongst the crowd in stadiums, the Portuguese wingerâ€s name is now being omitted from recent awards.

On Friday, the results of Manchester United Fans Player of the Month poll were announced on the clubâ€s official website. Dimitar Berbatov probably deservedly claimed it with 56%, beating defender Nemanja Vidic who came in second with 28 % out of the total 50,000 votes.

Disappointingly though for every Ronaldo supporter, the talismanic number 7 came neither third, nor fourth, nor fifth, as midfielder Michael Carrick, goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar and, veteran Ryan Giggs filled the remaining places.

With Ryan Giggs finishing last on the list with only 3%, we understand that not even
1,500 people out the 50,000 fans who logged in to vote chose Ronaldo as their favorite player during the month of January.

These statistics are quite debatable though and not encouraging from a Ronaldo point of view.

After scoring two good goals disallowed against Chelsea which should have made him the man of the match, and after netting the winner in Unitedâ€s Carling Cup semi final clash against Derby, as well as against Everton on January 31st – which took him up to second in the EPL Goal King chart – Ronaldo could only have his name absent in the fans Player of the Month poll as his reward.

Is it a sign that Manchester United fans donâ€t carry Ronaldo in their heart anymore?

Call him ‘the diver’, ‘the bad boy’ or whatever you want; his real names are ‘the European Player of the Year’, ‘the Ballon d’Or winner’, ‘The UEFA Club Player of the Year’ or ‘The PFA Player of the Year’ to name just a few…

The grown kid from the Madeira Island is the most decorated footballer of 2008. Ronaldo is a reigning king in many departments:
He won the EPL and European Golden Boot after scoring a ridiculous amount of 31 goals, raising the bar at a much higher level for other players who are now trying to emulate him.
Among those goals, let’s remember about the numerous breathtaking free kicks he scored against Sunderland or Portsmouth, as well as the beautiful back heel he made against Aston Villa to drive the ball past everyone inside the penalty box.

In the Champions League, Ronaldo finished as the top scorer with 8 goals including one in the final against Chelsea. That thrilling night could have seen Ronaldo’s dreams turn into bitter nightmares, as his spot kick was punched away by Cech in the penalty shootouts. But faith and luck rescued the Portuguese ace from falling down from the mighty hill he had built since the start of the season.

Ronaldo almost quit United in the summer during the transfer saga, but then ultimately decided to remain a Red Devil. This gave him the opportunity to hit a century of goals at the Theater of Dreams in the most fashionable way against Stoke City. His free-kick thirty yards out of the post flew into the net with the pace of an eagle and with the strength of a rocket to fire the back of the net.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not only an English and European Champion, but also a World Champion after clinching the FIFA World Club Cup far away in Japan in December. Ronaldo scored one goal in the tournament and was by far the crowd’s delight; his unique style of play was very much adored by the Japanese.

If grabbing awards was a kind of habit for Ronaldo during 2008, possessing glamorous ladies was also part of his lifestyle.
The Spanish model from Mallorca, Nereida Gallardo, was at the center of the media’s attention. After months of serious relationship, playboy Ronnie finally split with her in the summer, allowing Italian and Iranian models Letizia Filippi and Niki Ghazian respectively to conquer his heart.

Cristiano Ronaldo is still a single man as the year is coming to an end, a lone king on his throne ready to go in battle and fight to defend his worth and kingdom.

Another title is waiting for him – the Fifa Player of the Year Award – which would see him open 2009 in the most beautiful manner.
