The first half ended with 1-1 , each goal came from Rafael van der vaart and Cristiano Ronaldo. After failed to score in the previous 2 matches, Cristiano Ronaldo finally able to prove his sharpness on the field with a precise finishing, thanks to Joao Pereira’s assist. Earlier, the Portuguese captain was again throwing a couple of golden opportunities, but his brilliant goal managed to covered it up.

On the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo once again scored the second time for Portugal, which also became the winning goal for the Sellecao. The match ended with 2-1 for Portugal’s victory

Back 2 seasons ago, Ronaldo and Messi already start the pichichi fights. In season 2009/10, Messi won the title with 34 goals, while Ronaldo who mostly suffered with injury in his first year with Real Madrid can only collect 26 goals.

But on the next season, it was Ronaldo’s turn to grab the pichichi by scoring 40 goals for  the Whites. He was far lead from Messi record in 31 goals.

Clearly, this year the competition between the 2 best players are getting stiffer.  That can be shown on the goal ratio which has increased into 10%.

Messi explained that his goal achievement was because Pep trusted him with a new position as target man. Which mean, he gets all the ball supply, unlike last season, when he mostly play as winger.

For Ronaldo, his ambition is to win the pichichi for the second time. But unlike Messi, Ronaldo have to share the scoring board with other striker such as Benzema or Higuain. So it is tough to see who’s going to win the title, since according to Dani Alves, all Barcelona players will help Messi to keep on scoring and win the title, while Ronaldo have to created his own opportunity.

However, Ronaldo had a bit of history in Champions League penalty kick. On season 2007/08 when he was still with Manchester United, he failed to execute twice.

The first time was at Camp Nou, at Champions League final. ManUtd rewarded with a penalty  after Gabriel Milito caught on a handsball early of the game. At that time, ManUtd still won the Trophy since the match ended with 0-0, while The Red Devils won the first leg of 1-0.

Second time was against Chelsea, also in the Champions League final, where he failed to take the penalty in the extra round. The  situation was similar when he failed against Bayern Munich yesterday. But while on his 2 Champions League penalties failure he still managed to win the game in the end, but not this time. With Real Madrid, it had stopped him from getting to the final round, followed by his other colleagues failed penalty kick, Kaka and Sergio Ramos.
