Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Denmark last night came in as a very close one. The goal from Silvestre Varela, a substitute player, saved the team from leaving early from the Euro 2012 competition. Valera’s name quickly became the spotlight as he mentioned as the team’s saviour, as well as Pepe and Helder Postiga’s name. Unfortunately, for Cristiano Ronaldo, rather then getting a praise for his performance, the media mentioned him as a flop of the match.

Before the game started, Cristiano Ronaldo was considered as the most important player that carried out the burden for the whole team. However, he failed to answer their hope, as his performance was rather disappointing and missed at least 3 golden chances.

His best moment was at minute 77th, where he had a face to face opportunity with Denmark’s goalkeeper in an open shot. But the ball was too wide on the right, and that was the best shot he had until the game ended.

At minute 49th, Cristiano Ronaldo actually had the similar chance with Stephan Andersen, the goalie. But somehow the Portugal captain failed to finish it into a goal.

And at the injury time, rather then creating more goal opportunity, Cristiano Ronaldo received  a yellow card. And until the match ended, he failed to present a pleasing performance for the national team. And to sum it up, the Real Madrid’s forward made another mistake in an interview after the match. Not happy by being pointed out as the flop of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo made a comparison with his rival Messi .

“Last year at this time Messi was eliminated from the Copa America and also playing at home. That’s worse, right? I’m here fighting to move to the next phase of the Euro”, stated Ronaldo to the media.

No doubt the press will use this against him.

Portugal recorded a 3-2 victory last night over Denmark in their second Group match, brings them one step closer to knock out stage. However, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to give his best for the team as he threw away a couple of golden opportunity to place his name in the score board.

Portugal’s 3 goals came through Pepe, Helder Postiga and Silvestre Valera. Valera was a saviour for the team, as he scored the winning goal near the end of the match, and saves them from getting kicked out of the competition early.

The match against Poland was a part of preparation before the Euro 2012, where Portugal entered the “Group of Death” B along with Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.

“We knew it would be difficult. However, we have to think logically. The group match will be very difficult, but nothing is impossible. We must be sure to win. Mission is possible, but we must remain humble,” added Ronaldo.

To win the group stage, Portugal will also need all the luck they can get, and a much better performance than at yesterday match against Poland.

The draws for the qualification stages ahead of Euro 2012 were conducted on Sunday, February 7th 2010 and Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s Portugal fell in a five-team table.

Iceland, Norway, Cyprus, and Denmark again will be their opponents.

How tough will this group be for the 2004 European Championship runners-up?

During the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, Denmark shocked Portugal by defeating them 3-2 before drawing 1-1 with them in Copenhagen.

The Danes eventually topped Group A with Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s Portugal dramatically securing a play-off place.

However, looking at Portugalâ€s table in general, manager Carlos Queiroz declared:

“It is a good group for us. Weâ€ll be playing teams that have a different style of football. This group will produce good performances and it will be exciting, and I think that we can qualify.

“We need to prepare well as always, but I think that in the end, we will reach the finals of the European Championship.”

From Group H where Portugal have been drawn, every Cristiano Ronaldo fan will like to see the Portuguese national team competing in Euro 2012. Is Denmark going to pose another serious threat?
