Recommendations and praises havenâ€t stopped falling on Florentino Perez – the man who is believed to have made it all happen.

Real Madrid can now boast of their line-up of stars which comprises names such as Kaka, Benzema, Xabi Alonso, and Arbeloa; all these players are placed alongside Los Blancos†long-time prey, Cristiano Ronaldo.

For most Madridistas, the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the club is a source of pride, amazement, and a dream come true for all parties.

After the collapse of the Portugueseâ€s summer transfer move from Manchester to Madrid last year, many thought that the relationship between the two clubs was so damaged that Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s dream move to Real Madrid was forever dead.

And with all the “I love Man United” comments coming out from the mouth of Cristiano Ronaldo, it seemed hard to imagine the 2009/2010 football season with the current World Player of the Year out of Old Trafford but at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But as Cristiano Ronaldo had stated time and times again last season, the football career of the grown kid from Madeira was in the hands of the future.

After Manchester Unitedâ€s Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in Rome, rumors over Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s future with the Red Devils grew louder and louder. Then on a morning, it was announced that Manchester United had accepted a fee of £ 80 million from Los Blancos to sell their ace, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Praises quickly began to fell on the man of the moment, Florentino Perez. The Spanish giants president received admiration amid criticism from all over the world. The simple question that filled the thoughts of some amazed football supporters who couldnâ€t believe the reality was “How did Perez do that?”

In the newspapers, on TV, on radio, and over the internet, the media kept declaring that “Florentino Perez has signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United to Real Madrid”.

Was this a true statement?

The one that spent weeks and even months sweating to make a mega move for the Portuguese winger now claims to be the man behind Florentino Perezâ€s achievement. In other words, Real Madridâ€s former President, Ramon Calderon, proudly declared that HE signed Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to the media this week, the 58-year-old declared:

“Cristiano Ronaldo, as everyone now knows, was hired during my tenure (as president),

“I gave €115 million to the club and €100 million of benefits that have allowed the president (Florentino Perez) to make the purchases made.”

Whereas Manuel Pellegrini is calmly working on setting infinite peace in Real Madridâ€s unpopular dressing rooms, the fight goes on behind the scenes between the irritated Calderon and the majestic Florentino Perez.

The truth of who signed Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid will forever remain a matter of justice.

Ronaldo the Winking Hero

The “Winking hero” suddenly transformed into Englandâ€s number one most hated personality. While a vast majority of football fans took pleasure in threatening him to move from Manchester United and from the country as well, most analysts tipped Ronaldo to suffer career nightmares whereas Rooney would excel.

But these predictions never came true. Cristiano Ronaldo received the backing of Alex Ferguson; the grown
kid from Madeira soon became Manchester Unitedâ€s most impressive player – a real ace.

Cristiano Ronaldo gained more confidence and always went out to prove his critics wrong although they never seemed to shut up. The Portuguese winger visibly played under pressure – this pressure that was created by anti-Ronaldo supporters and by the fact that he had to play for a team that was NOT his childhood dream club.

Despite these problems, Cristiano Ronaldo battled hard to defend his worth by powering Manchester United to their first league title in three years. The winger netted 23 goals (17 in the English Premier League) and became Manchester Unitedâ€s top scorer at the end of the 2006/2007 season.

Some called his achievement “luck” and once again predicted that he wouldnâ€t be able to match the standard that he had set.

Well, Cristiano Ronaldo even went steps further to break his own record. The following season, he netted 42 goals in all competition which helped Manchester United to land the Champions League and the English Premier League titles.

Last year, Ronaldoâ€s season was tarnished by the transfer saga and by an ankle operation which saw him miss the start of Manchester Unitedâ€s campaign.

Either way, Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s 2008/2009 season can be marked by so many memorable things: his dazzling performance in Japan that helped the Red Devils to lift the Fifa World Club Cup trophy, his wonder goal against Porto FC that fired Manchester United to the semi-finals of the Champions League, his brace against Arsenal in Europe, his vital equalizer against Aston Villa, and the list goes on…

During that final year at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo also scored his 100th goal for the club with a 30-yard free-kick against Stoke City. One person who keeps reflecting on Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s influence in Manchester is Chelseaâ€s Frank Lampard.

“You don’t replace him [Cristiano Ronaldo], apart from with Messi. He [Messi] is probably the only player you could do it with.

“With Ronaldo, the amount of goals he scores, the amount of times you flicked on the telly and saw he had scored and they had won 1-0 or 2-0.

“It is very difficult to replace him. I saw Ferguson say that himself, and I don’t think he will look to replace him.”

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United and his goals are now part of the past. The “bad boy” knew how to blind defenders and punish them instantly with his pace and his mesmerizing dancing touches. He brought pride to the Red Devils all over the world with his particular skill on the ball. Cristiano Ronaldo was essential to Manchester Unitedâ€s success in the 21st century, and that, surely, is a fact.

He seemed to play with his heart and mind despite the fact that he initially warned Alex Ferguson that Manchester and England were not part of his childhood dreams. The Red Devils shaped him into the worldâ€s best footballer and in return, he performed all his tricks, flicks, and everything that personified him as the grown kid from Madeira.

As much as Manchester United may struggle to cop without Ronaldo, they may also find their way through to success again.

Michael Owen succeeds to Cristiano Ronaldo as Manchester Unitedâ€s number 7 but the mesmerizing effect that the Portuguese had IS and will always be unique. As the proverb says, you must be either better or worse than a person [than Ronaldo]. As much as everyone is unique, you cannot equal someone in certain terms.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the “Winking Hero”, is forever irreplaceable.

Portugal's Ronaldo sad

Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed Portugalâ€s friendly match against Liechtenstein earlier this month, is being receiving a lot of criticism from the Portuguese FA.

His commitment to the national team has been questioned time and times again by the President of the PFA, Gilberto Madail, as well as by Manchester Unitedâ€s former assistant coach Carlos Queiroz. As regards to all the negative judgments over his personality, Cristiano Ronaldo declared:

“I just want to be more respected. I played for the national team one day after my father passed away. People do not see those things.”

Indeed, Cristiano Ronaldo played for Portugal just one day after his daddy died. Ronaldo, 19 at that time, powered his country to a memorable 7-1 victory over Russia as Portugal cruised on their way to Germany 2006.

Ronaldo continued:

“I am very sad to know that the Portuguese people have doubts about what I am, what I was and what I will be for the national team.”

Earlier this year, Cristiano Ronaldo was criticized by a member of FC Portoâ€s board. The Portugal captain was ironically taunted after he scored a wonder goal for Manchester United against Porto in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling to find the back of the net for Portugal who are in a critical state in the qualifiers for South Africa 2010. Critiques paint Ronaldo as a selfish player who is either unable or unwilling to perform wonders for his national team.

“Of course I did not like those critiques,” Ronaldo said. “Those were very bad critiques. I do not know why they do it, the press, even the president and Queiroz.”

“I think they know me very well, they know who I am and so it makes me really sad that people doubt what I have, but okay, there are people like this.”

Cristiano Ronaldo reached the highest levels in club football with Manchester United when he won trophies like the Champions League and the Fifa World Club Cup in Japan. Can he influence the Portuguese team with this kind of success and offer the country its first ever major trophy?

C. Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Europe’s Footballer of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated in UEFA’s Team of the Year.

The Portuguese winger, who last time claimed the prize at the expense of Fernadno Torres, Lionel Messi, and Wayne Rooney, will vie for the honours alongside Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished second best with Manchester United behind Barcelona in the final of the Champions League, is poised to lose out on a second consecutive European Player of the Year title.
Football analysts, coaches, players, and fans are all tipping Argentina’s Lieonal Messi to grab the award at the end of the month.

If this indeed happens, how will Cristiano Ronaldo redeem his pride next season? The World Player of the Year now finds himself in the same league with his greatest competitor Lionel Messi.

Frank Lampard

The new season is about to start and the Red Devils are prepared to march on in quest of success. While some people believe that Ronaldoâ€s departure will not affect the English Premier League defending champions, others think like Chelseaâ€s Frank Lampard. Speaking to The Mirror, the midfielder commentated:

“Ronaldo is a huge loss. In losing him, theyâ€ve taken 70-odd goals over two seasons out of the team.

“He won games single-handedly for United at times. You look across their team and they have fantastic players across the board. But they are going to miss Ronaldo. It is as simple as that.”

Before losing to Chelsea in the Community Shield yesterday, Manchester United had also lost against Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup. These defeats left Manchester United without important trophies ahead of the new season which kicks off on August 15.

It may be hard to answer some few questions:

Do Owen and Valencia fill the gap created by Tevez and Ronaldoâ€s departure? How will Manchester United cop without Ronaldo who was the clubâ€s top scorer in the past three years? Can Manchester Unitedâ€s current squad match or outclass the achievements set by the Manchester United side that comprised Cristiano Ronaldo? And the questions could go on and on, either with many answers or with no responses at all.

However, one man who didnâ€t hesitate in giving his opinion on this issue was Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s former teammate, Patrice Evra. The French Man retorted to the media:

“Ronaldo was never the star at Manchester United. We are all stars and the boss would never let any one person believe he is the star.

“He was a good player for us and a very important one. But Manchester United was Manchester United before him and it is still Manchester United after him.”
