The youngster has drawn comparisons to Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney. Since bursting onto the first-team scene back in 2015, he has gone on to make 112 Premier League appearances so far and found the back of the net 29 times. Rashford does still have plenty of flaws in his game, one of which is his finishing. However, he is still only 21-years-old and will get better and likely iron out many of the errors in his game during the next few years.

“He’s different. He runs towards people, tries to beat people. He has the confidence. He is quick which I never was” Berbatov told the South China Morning Post. 

“He is working on his shooting technique, I can see this. He’s trying to imitate Ronaldo with his free-kicks.

“The only thing he needs to work on is the finishing – the small details with his finishing. He’s still so young but he has experience.”

There is certainly credibility to Berbatov’s claims

Rashford grew up during a time when Ronaldo used to dominate the headlines for United so in all probability, he idolizes the Portugal international. CR7 also recently admitted during a recent interview with The Times that he still watches videos of Ronaldo and Messi and gains some tips from them on how to improve his own game.

So far, it certainly does not look like Rashford is as talented as Ronaldo and Messi. The latter duo were already regarded as world-class and among the best in the world when they were 21. Rashford by contrast is a quality player but it would be an exaggeration to say that he can currently be considered to be among the best in the World. Nevertheless, he is capable of developing into one of the best and can help lead United to silverware which is something that they have been lacking since 2013.

The game marked the first time that CR7 had returned to the Theatre of Dreams following his sensational transfer to Real Madrid during the summer of 2009. Instead of jeering him as some would have expected, the Portugal international was met with a warm applause by United fans.

Ronaldo scored Madrid’s goal during the first leg of the tie, which took place at the Santiago Bernabeu. He also ended up scoring the winning goal in England. United went ahead following an own goal from Sergio Ramos. However, Luka Modric and Ronaldo scored to put Madrid ahead.

“I have some [memories] at Manchester United and Liverpool, but I’d choose Manchester United,” Pepe told JOE.

“It was the way that the Manchester United fans welcomed back Cristiano, even though he left United and went to Real Madrid.

“The spirit of that really stayed with me. It really touched me the way they welcomed him back to Manchester United.”

It is not surprising that Ronaldo was met with a warm reception by United fans. His departure from the club in 2009 was not exactly on bitter terms. He contributed a lot to the Red Devils during his time with them and allowed the club to gain a then record-breaking £80 million for his sale.

Pepe and Ronaldo have played together for more than a decade through the Portugal national team as well as Real Madrid. After moving on from Los Blancos during the summer of 2017, Pepe went to play for Turkish club Besiktas. He has since re-joined Portuguese club Porto where he played between 2004-07.

At Madrid, the duo won three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles together. They have also tasted success together at international level after having won the European Championships in 2016 as well as the first-ever UEFA Nations League this year.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is currently on the books of Juventus and will be aiming to win another Champions League with a third club during the upcoming season.

Winning the Champions League with Juve his next target

Despite approaching the latter years of his career, Ronaldo remains as hungry as ever for success and there is no doubt that he will be aiming to lead Juve to Europe’s premier club competition, the one major trophy that has eluded Italy’s dominant football club. The one major setback which Ronaldo experienced last season was the shock elimination of Juventus from the Champions League during the quarter-final by Ajax. This may just end up costing him the Ballon d’Or award.

Ronaldo’s contract with Juve is valid for three years and this means that it will be due to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season, by which time he will be 36. Barring a massive decline in form, it appears unlikely at this stage that Ronaldo will hang up his boots by then; he will surely want to go to the 2022 World Cup with Portugal. United have been a shadow of the club that they once were since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. It would be fitting that CR7 return to the club that helped make him a star and perhaps even end his career there. Perhaps, he can inspire them back to winning ways?

Ronaldo is revered at both Manchester United and Real Madrid, who he has both done so much for, and recently the Portuguese midfielder has set fires by blazing by talking about his love for Manchester United and refused to rule out a move back to Old Trafford.

The recent statement from the 29-year-old has sent online bookmakers into overdrive, with many putting Ronaldo at incredibly small odds to return to Manchester United in the not so distance.

So will we see Ronaldo back in the Premier League?

Well the first thing to consider is cost. Madrid signed him for a then world record £80million and they would be hoping to recoup a significant proportion of that back. As with anything a cost-benefit-analysis will have to be undertaken. Ronaldo would be 30-years-old when United could even fathom making a move. Is £70m for an aging player worth the money? In the case of most players no, but Ronaldo is not most players, he is in the uppermost echelons of football greatness and will still be for the next six years. So for United you wouldn’t think money would be too much of a stumbling block,

Then there is Louis van Gaal. The new Manchester United manager is known for his youthful approach. At Ajax he won the Champions League with a team of youngsters, he brought youth players into the Barcelona set up and the current Bayern Munich side owes thanks to Van Gaal, who amongst other gave Thomas Muller his start, while his youthful Holland side excited at the recent World Cup. Would Van Gaal, a man known for stubbornness, change his mantra of youth and take Ronaldo? Although he has made his name for bringing through youngsters Van Gaal has always incorporated veterans in his side, and what better example could you have for a young player than Ronaldo?

Ronaldo is viewed with the same admiration that United hold fans George Best and Eric Cantona and they would welcome him back to the club with glee, and with Ronaldo finally winning the Champions League with his beloved Real he may want to return to the cooler climes of Britain.

A disastrous season with Real could open negotiations with the Red Devils. Or perhaps an argument with Carlo Ancelotti will push him back into the arms of Old Trafford who you believe will move heaven and earth if they thought they had just one shot at bringing him back to Manchester.

If Ronaldo does not move back to Old Trafford in the next to season will the ship have sailed? If so, United should seek to actively, but secretively, make inroads for their former number seven.

The crowd gave Ronaldo a healthy round of applause as he entered the game. Fans in the front row by Real Madrid‘s bench stood as Ronaldo warmed up wearing a green penny.

“This was not a friendly,” Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said. “I had the feeling Real Madrid didn’t want to lose. I think that’s why he brought Ronaldo into the game.”

When Real Madrid announced its roster for the 2014 International Champions Cup, Ronaldo wasn’t even on it after suffering a knee injury playing for Portugal in the 2014 World Cup.

On July 24, the club added FIFA‘s reigning Ballon D’or Award winner on to the roster. He flew to the United States the morning of Real Madrid’s opening match of the tournament against Inter Milan.

He held individual practice sessions throughout the week, including one when Real Madrid practiced at Eastern Michigan University’s Scicluna Field.

When Ancelotti addressed the media before his team held a two-hour practice session at Michigan Stadium Friday night, the manager clarified Ronaldo‘s status.

“Ronaldo has been working individually, and he continues to work,” Ancelotti said. “We won’t put him out tomorrow as he has not trained with the full squad. He’ll start training with the squad as we plan to use him in the European Super Cup.”

But the coach evidently had a change of heart, subbing Ronaldo into the game for Alvaro Arbeloa.

Ancelotti didn’t go into detail on why Ronaldo played, but said after the game that his leading scorer would be healthy for 2014 UEFA Super Cup in Cardiff next week.

“We miss him when he doesn’t play,” Ancelotti said. “Next week he will be fine.”

TITLE: Why Cristiano Ronaldo will end up in Manchester

Cristiano Ronaldo has two more years left to run on his current Real Madrid contract and he’s giving away no secrets as to his next move, as he decides where he wants to win his next selection of football trophies.

If he desires a move away from Real Madrid this summer then there are only two countries that he can possibly end up in; England and France.

England means a possible return to Manchester United, which is where Ronaldo spent the early part of his career and where he still has a lot of friends, despite the fact he just scored twice against the club in the Champions League last 16 tie.

It’s also the club managed by someone he has described as a father figure in football, Sir Alex Ferguson.

There are no grudges there, no bad feeling which means Ronaldo would be happy to work with Ferguson again if he became available and if United managed to pull off a deal to sign him.

There is also the option for him to sign for Manchester City as they could afford him, but that seems unlikely considering the respect he has for United as a club and for their supporters.

The other option is France and Paris Saint-Germain, possibly one of the only clubs in the world who could afford him.

It’s a move that would appeal to Ronaldo because of two things; the chance to play football in a different country and the chance to work under a new manager.

The football side of the move is something which may put him off because of the fact Ligue 1 football is generally of a lower quality than in the Premier League or La Liga.

However, the chance to work with Carlo Ancelotti is interesting because Ancelotti has shown great skill in handling the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and other high profile stars at the French club.

He’s also recently been described as the club’s owners as the best manager in the world.

It’s possible but it’s not likely while a return route to Manchester could be on the cards, which Ronaldo is always going to pick over anything else.

Speaking to News of the World in an exclusive interview, Cristiano Ronaldo talked about his connection with Rooney and the rest of Manchester United players.

The current Real Madrid superstar affirmed:

“I still speak to Wayne. When I have the opportunity, I speak with him… with Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra…”

“We talk about football and everything.”

Singling out Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo commented on the English manâ€s form:

“Wayne has scored a lot of goals and he is the man at Manchester United at the moment.

“Iâ€m really, really happy for him because he has deserved it, because he has worked for it.”

Some people suggest that Rooney is only starting to show up his influence since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But CR9 has other views:

“He is a fantastic player, but it’s not because I left the club that he is doing well. He has always done well.”
