However, he surprisingly agreed a one-season deal with PSG during the summer of 2018. This was presumably to have one final chance to win the Champions League. Buffon is one of the best goalkeepers of all-time and has won virtually everything that there is to win. The only two trophies which have eluded him are the European Championships on the international front and the Champions League on a club level.  He did play in three Champions League finals with Juventus and lost them all.

Buffon is expected to act as cover for Wojciech Szczesny this season. He will likely retire from professional football at the end of the season (this time for real) and take up a coaching role behind the scenes with Juventus.

“He hasn’t said anything about it, but we’ve spoken because he’s someone I’ve admired and we’ve faced each other many times,” Ronaldo said, as quoted by Marca.

“He told me he was happy that we are together now, and I said the same because, in my opinion, he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world, if not the best.

“Him and Iker Casillas are in football’s history books and I’m happy to be with him because he’s a five-star man.”

It will be interesting to see Ronaldo and Buffon as team-mates

It will certainly be interesting to see two of the modern-day greats playing alongside each other. The duo have never been team-mates prior to this though they did play against each other many times. Many people will remember Ronaldo’s stunning bicycle kick for Real Madrid against Juventus during the Champions League in early 2018.

Buffon will also now have one final chance to win the Champions League. While he is now second-choice keeper at Juve, Szczesny tends to be inconsistent at times and it will not be surprising to see Buffon called up for first-team duty at some point this season.

Many modern-day legends of the game start losing their ability to perform at the highest level and many, including Ronaldo’s former boss Zinedine Zidane, actually retired at his age. Ronaldo, however, will be unlikely to retire anytime soon at least and currently does not have any plans to quit the game. He is still as hungry as he was ten years ago to compete at the highest level and win major trophies on both a club and international level. 1. Once Cristiano Jr starts playing

Ronaldo Jr is now nine years old and is showing tremendous ability. If he carries on progressing the way that he is currently doing, he should eventually become a professional just like his father. His father will be 41 years old at that time. The likes of Teddy Sheringham, Paulo Maldini, Javier Zanetti and Francesco Totti all retired at a similar age. It would be a fitting end to Ronaldo’s career to bow out by playing alongside his son and thus paving the way for a new era.

2. Once he eventually loses his touch

Ronaldo still is a world-class player but unfortunately, he is now at an age where his body will be more unpredictable and it could in the worst scenario become difficult for him to continue performing at an elite level. CR7 could potentially just decide that it is time to hang up his boots once he notices that his body can no longer cope with other young talents in world football.

Forlan struggled at United

Forlan may have won the best player award after the 2010 World Cup and be a Uruguayan football legend but he largely struggled to establish himself during his time at United. During his time with the Red Devils, he went on to score just 10 goals from 63 appearances. He would go on to endure better success in Spain with Villareal and Atletico Madrid, the latter whom he helped to win the inaugural edition of the Europa League during the 2009/10 season. Forlan may be right in that Ronaldo puts a great deal of effort and thought towards his presentation as compared to the average footballer, though it may be debatable whether he can be considered to be an “egotist” because of that.

He also managed to win the Serie A with Juventus last season. Now in his second season with the old Lady of Italian football, Ronaldo will be aiming to help them to win the Champions League this season and in the process, secure Europe’s Premier Club competition with a third club.

Ronaldo has also outdone Messi on the international stage

The comparisons between Ronaldo and Messi will likely never end even once the duo have retired. Another area is which Ronaldo has performed better than Messi is on the international stage. CR7 has two international titles to his name which are the 2016 European Championship as well as the inaugural UEFA Nations League. Messi by contrast has never won a major international tournament. He ended as the best player during the 2014 World Cup but his country subsequently went on to lose the final against Germany.

It can also be argued that Messi plays alongside more gifted team-mates for Argentina while Ronaldo by contrast has been viewed as single handily carrying Portugal in professional football for more than a decade.

The youngster has drawn comparisons to Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney. Since bursting onto the first-team scene back in 2015, he has gone on to make 112 Premier League appearances so far and found the back of the net 29 times. So far, it certainly does not look like Rashford is as talented as Ronaldo and Messi. The latter duo were already regarded as world-class and among the best in the world when they were 21. Rashford by contrast is a quality player but it would be an exaggeration to say that he can currently be considered to be among the best in the World. Nevertheless, he is capable of developing into one of the best and can help lead United to silverware which is something that they have been lacking since 2013.

The 21-year-old is expected to lead the line on a regular basis for the Red Devils this season following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. He will be hoping to emulate the heroics that Ronaldo performed at Old Trafford between 2003-2009.

Rashford certainly started the season well on Sunday as United romped to a 4-0 victory against Chelsea as he went on to bag a brace. The other goals on the day came from Anthony Martial and Daniel James who came on as a substitute.

United currently lack an attacker who is as gifted as Cristiano Ronaldo and this is one of the reasons as to why they are not really expected to challenge for any major silverware this season. It will be considered impressive if they attain a top four finish while playing well in the Cup competitions and giving the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City a run for their money. They will also be hoping that the likes of young talent such as Rashford, Aaron Wan Bissaka, James and Mason Greenwood can blossom this season.

There is little chance of Ronaldo coming up against United this season

Ronaldo is now 34-years-old. He is the same age that the legendary Zinedine Zidane was when he retired from professional football back in 2006. Most players his age including his former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney are now winding down their careers in less physically demanding Leagues. Ronaldo, however, maintains a high level of form and still wants to win major trophies including the Champions League and World Cup.

To top it off, de Ligt captained the side at just 19-years-old. De Ligt ended up opting to join Juventus ahead of the upcoming season for an initial fee of €75 million. Many believed that it was Ronaldo’s comments which convinced the player to join Juventus over Barcelona. However, the player himself as since spoken out and said that the conversation with the Portugal captain did not play as big a role as thought.

“He was not the main factor in making me choose Juventus,” he said as reported by Tuttosport. 

“There are many factors that led me to decide to accept Juve.

Meanwhile, there is little doubt that Ronaldo and Juventus will be going all-out to win the Champions League next season. The Old Lady has won everything that there is to win in Italian football but the Champions League remains the one piece of major silverware which has eluded them. They have so far had an interesting summer which has seen them bring Gianluigi Buffon, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Merih Demiral, Luca Pellegrini, Cristian Romero in addition to de Light.

The Old Lady will be favourites to win the Serie A ahead of Inter Milan who are expected to be improved next season following the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new boss. de Ligt has been playing for Juve this pre-season. He has looked impressive but was rather unfortunate to have scored an own goal during the team’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan which they went on to win on penalties.

What happened during the game?

The K-League team played positive football and opened the scoring during the seventh minute following a long-range effort from Osmar. Juve levelled just two minutes later though through Simone Muratore. Team K League again went on to take the lead through a neat finish from Brazilian Cesinha who after scoring performed the famous Ronaldo celebration. After Adam Taggart made the score 3-1 for the K-League Side, Juve scored two quick goals.

Juve fielded a strong side which featured the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain but they were unable to play clinical football. Understandably, they were probably not giving their all intentionally in a bid to avoid serious injuries ahead of the upcoming Serie A campaign.

Juventus are next in action when they play against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on 10 August. They will now have a long break ahead of that game and it is very unlikely that Ronaldo will not play a part in the tune-up game against Diego Simeone’s side.

It is not surprising that Ronaldo was met with a warm reception by United fans. His departure from the club in 2009 was not exactly on bitter terms. He contributed a lot to the Red Devils during his time with them and allowed the club to gain a then record-breaking £80 million for his sale.

Pepe and Ronaldo have played together for more than a decade through the Portugal national team as well as Real Madrid. After moving on from Los Blancos during the summer of 2017, Pepe went to play for Turkish club Besiktas. He has since re-joined Portuguese club Porto where he played between 2004-07.

At Madrid, the duo won three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles together. They have also tasted success together at international level after having won the European Championships in 2016 as well as the first-ever UEFA Nations League this year.
