How far Los Blancos are able to go in Europe this season may depend on the form of Cristiano Ronaldo. The 32-year-old Portuguese superstar has unfortunately started to show some signs of decline. Ronaldo turned in a dour performance over the weekend in the team’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo, and the defending Champions League title holders currently sit a distant fourth in La Liga on just 32 points.

On Wednesday, Spanish outlet Diario Gol reported that Ronaldo’s teammate, Sergio Ramos, has urged the club’s brass to drop Ronaldo for a period of time. Ramos reportedly wants Ronaldo to get some time off in an attempt to rediscover his currently missing world-class form.

The report says that Ramos also wants the likes of Karim Benzema, Marcelo and Raphael Varane to enjoy a stint on the sidelines in order to recuperate.

While Ramos may want one thing, it’s difficult to imagine Zinedine Zidane actually dropping his most high-profile player. Earlier this week, Zidane said, “I can’t imagine a Real Madrid without Cristiano, not at all. He’s a Madrid player and he wants to finish his career here. I don’t see him playing anywhere else.”

Despite Ronaldo’s recent dip in form, the superstar has reportedly drawn the interest of defending Premier League champions Chelsea. With former Madrid striker Alvaro Morata struggling to stay consistent in his first season in England, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly toyed with the idea of replacing him with Ronaldo, if the latter has an interest in returning to the Premier League.

If this is the case and CR7 does make a move to Chelsea, it could lead to a lot of goals for them next season. Considering Los Blancos are currently 16 points adrift of Barcelona in La Liga and seven points back of Atletico for second, Real’s chances at making a serious run in the league this season would appear slim.

With little to play for domestically, it may make sense for Zidane to give Ronaldo some time to try and find himself. That said, doing so may risk upsetting the player, which is something Zidane certainly would not want to do. If Ronaldo believes that continuing to play is the best way for him to find his form, then he’ll play.

Madrid will resume La Liga play on Saturday when they take on Villarreal, who sit third in the league, from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane ‘can’t imagine’ a Real Madrid without CR7

“He’s a Madrid player and he wants to finish his career here. I don’t see him playing anywhere else,” the 45-year-old said in a recent press conference.

Ronaldo has been arguably Real’s best player since he arrived at the club from United in 2009, and it is very hard to see the side willing to part ways with the footballing icon, and five times Ballon d’Or winner, just yet.

However, Ronaldo is now well into his 30s and his performances are declining – and will continue to decline as he continues to age.

Madrid will, therefore, need to start preparing for life without the Portuguese, and in the process, they may have to make some difficult decisions to make, such as whether he should remain the focal point of the team going forward.

How long can Ronaldo keep going?

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be happy with this. As much as he has a pure love of the game, he also enjoys being in the media spotlight and being the main player for his side, so questions remain as to whether he would be willing to see his influence within the Real first team wane.

Should the club agree to him continuing to have an influential role within first team affairs, and if he can keep up a high standard of performances, it’s relatively easy to imagine that Ronaldo will see out his career with the Spanish giants.

CR7 is one of the hardest workers in world football; he is known to be the first one to arrive at training and the last one to leave, and this could help him to prolong his career beyond that of the average footballer.

He said about the tackle:

But despite the financial crisis that the world is currently facing, Fifa Presiden Sepp Blatter has clearly backed Florentino Perezâ€s action.

“Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing is good for football. It shows the market of the sport is healthy despite the world financial crisis,

“This means our product is still good. This is the people’s sport and they need stars. The transfer will cost a lot of money, but it shows that there is still demand for a football star,” Blatter was quoted as saying in Real Madridâ€s official website.

“We should be allowed to be generous about this. This market is very sensitive because there is a financial crisis, but the football market is still a good one.”

The Fifa President then explained:

“Fifty million dollars were paid for the Brazilian Ronaldo ten years ago, and I ask myself, ‘What are 80 million pounds nowadays?’ This means there is still a demand for stars and that there is no crisis in football.”

Three times Fifa Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane shared his opinion on Ronaldoâ€s performance earlier this week.

The former French skipper described the Portuguese as an incredible player worth of being named as the worldâ€s best footballer.

The retired world cup winner revealed how much he was impressed by Ronaldoâ€s performance especially last season when he netted 42 goals to help the Reds win the double.

At only 23 years of age, Ronaldo has already won a multitude of awards like Zidane during his career. Those include the PFA Award and the European Player of the Year award.

Ronaldo now eyes the Fifa Player of the Year award, which would illustrate a successful 2007/2008 season. And his fans will hope that this is only the beginning of Ronaldoâ€s reign in the world of football.
