But according to the White Houseâ€s former president, Ramon Calderon, Los Blancos had acquired the Portuguese superstar much earlier than that.

There is some bad blood flowing between Ramon Calderon and Real Madridâ€s current club president, Florentino Perez. Both men are rivals and both claim to have signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Calderon, who resigned from his presidential post a year ago, used to be a regular figure in the Spanish papers. The 58-year-old man was constantly ‘at war†with the Red Devils†legendary manager Alex Ferguson in an affair that was called “the Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer Saga”.

Calderonâ€s mission was to complete the Spanish giants’ dream move for the Portuguese superstar. Now despite the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo never stepped at the Santiago Bernabeu during his mandate, the former Real Madrid president fully believes that he is the man who brought the star winger in Spain.

“Cristiano came to an agreement with Manchester United for a transfer to Real Madrid on December 8th 2008,” Calderon precisely stated.

Perhaps dejected by the fact that most football followers (if not all) look upon Florentino Perez as “the man who made Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s dream switch to Real Madrid happen”, Ramon Calderon insisted:

“There was no negotiation during last summer. Everything was already concluded.”

Ramon Calderon went further into details to explain how the deal between Manchester United and Real Madrid went through, and how Cristiano Ronaldo was the main person behind the success of this transfer.

“The player accepted a clause of € 30 million; that was in case the transfer failed. But Inter Milan and Barcelona also joined the race.

“The Red Devils wanted to resolve that clause for those two teams instead of selling to Real Madrid. Everyone knows that there isnâ€t a good relationship between the two clubs [Real Madrid and Manchester United].

“But the situation was eventually resolved by Cristiano Ronaldo himself. He remained faithful to Real Madrid.”

Real Madrid can now boast of their line-up of stars which comprises names such as Kaka, Benzema, Xabi Alonso, and Arbeloa; all these players are placed alongside Los Blancos†long-time prey, Cristiano Ronaldo.

For most Madridistas, the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the club is a source of pride, amazement, and a dream come true for all parties.

After the collapse of the Portugueseâ€s summer transfer move from Manchester to Madrid last year, many thought that the relationship between the two clubs was so damaged that Cristiano Ronaldoâ€s dream move to Real Madrid was forever dead.

And with all the “I love Man United” comments coming out from the mouth of Cristiano Ronaldo, it seemed hard to imagine the 2009/2010 football season with the current World Player of the Year out of Old Trafford but at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Was this a true statement?

The one that spent weeks and even months sweating to make a mega move for the Portuguese winger now claims to be the man behind Florentino Perezâ€s achievement. In other words, Real Madridâ€s former President, Ramon Calderon, proudly declared that HE signed Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to the media this week, the 58-year-old declared:

“Cristiano Ronaldo, as everyone now knows, was hired during my tenure (as president),

“I gave €115 million to the club and €100 million of benefits that have allowed the president (Florentino Perez) to make the purchases made.”

Whereas Manuel Pellegrini is calmly working on setting infinite peace in Real Madridâ€s unpopular dressing rooms, the fight goes on behind the scenes between the irritated Calderon and the majestic Florentino Perez.

Cristiano Ronaldo finally made comments over his Real Madrid transfer; the 24-year-old show boy didnâ€t hide his happiness at this big-money move.

Ronaldoâ€s departure from Manchester United has spread irritation and disappointment among many Red Devils fans.

However, the Portuguese winger – who won several club and individual honors with Manchester United – thinks it is time for him to quit England.

“I have had my time at Man United. It’s time to look forward and £80m is quite a sum of money. This deal is historic.”

Ronaldo, who is still in the US for holidays, added:

“It’s flattering when two of the top teams in the world want you to play for them.

“Now I can look forward to Real Madrid and a new stage in my career. I learned of the deal here in LA and heard from my people that United had accepted.”

Manchester Unitedâ€s Luis Nani also expressed his happiness for the Portugal captain.

“It’s a fantastic fee. It puts a new value on Ronaldo. We are talking about an excellent player, so I think it (the fee) is fair.”

“He deserves everything that has happened to him considering what he has accomplished in recent years.

“Real Madrid is a great club and I wish him luck.”

For Spainâ€s number one goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid is a celebration. Speaking to the Daily Star, Casillas declared:

Yes, the transfer saga is over… but the war of words between both clubs hasnâ€t ceased.

Now the President of the Spanish Giants has pointed out Cristiano Ronaldo as the cause of last summerâ€s soap-opera.

“We have left that, it has been a very big story, which we didn’t provoke,” Calderon told Sky Sports News.

“The player said he wanted to come here, a dream to come to Real Madrid and we received and we were happy to know that,” he continued, emphasizing on the influential greatness of his club.

“After that I talked to Manchester [United] but [chief executive] David Gill was very clear and said they did not want to sell at all.

“We want to have a good relation with all the big clubs in Europe and Manchester [United] is one of the best and I would like to have a good relationship with them forever, and they said for the moment no.

There is a sensation that Calderon regrets what happened in the summer. Certainly, El Supremo would have reacted differently if Ronaldoâ€s capture was a deal done and dusted.

So was Madridâ€s hunt for the 23 year old Star winger a voluntary mission for Calderon, or a risky business in which he would not have entered if not because of Ronaldoâ€s wish to join his team?

Whatsoever, the President – who is presently enduring a tough La Liga season dominated by rivals Barcelona – still had some kind regards towards the Portuguese winger:

“I know the media in general like to give excitement to their readers and listeners and Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic player and he has won the Golden Ball – and I congratulate him on that and I wish him the best – regardless of where he is going to be in the future.”

Perhaps Ramon Calderon wanted to hit back at Fergieâ€s comments when he said “I wish him the best – regardless of where he is going to be in the future.” A couple of weeks ago, the Scottish boss was quoted as saying by France Football that he wished Ronaldo could win a lot more awards, before adding that he would love to see him achieve this under a Manchester United jersey of course.

Meanwhile, according to the Spanish media El Mundo, Real Madrid are preparing another deal to sign Ronaldo next summer – this time for real – from Manchester United. This news is only a rumour, though. But the transcript of a conversation – released by El Mundo – between Pedro Trapote and President Ramon Calderon after Madrid’s loss to Barcelona, reveals how true this report could be:

“If you are asking me what we are going to do now then I would tell you that we have already signed the best player for the summer,” Trapote is quoted as saying.

“Are you talking about Cristiano?” was the reply (probably made by Calderon).

“The best of the best. It is Cristiano, there is no other. It is better that we do not say anything at the moment though.

“Why can you not say anything. It is the best time because things are going badly and people need something to excite them in the middle of all this.

“No, it is best to not say anything because there are some clauses that prevent us from announcing it now. For us it would be a good time, but should not do that. But it is not bad, eh?”

Well, secret words gone public! Watch out next summer if Madrid doesnâ€t win a title this season. The fight for saviour Cristiano Ronaldo may be stronger than ever.

The opposition featuring Real Madridâ€s Calderon and Manchester Unitedâ€s Alex Ferguson is a hot battle made of two men claiming to be tranquil and relax. Earlier last week, Ramon Calderonâ€s comments on the transfer saga came at the delight of the clubâ€s board. The president affirmed that Ronaldoâ€s move would be completed in two weeks.

He stated that the club has a healthy budget that would prevent Real Madrid from a financial crisis should they even splash 85 million Euro on the Portuguese playmaker.

In the meantime, far away in South Africa where Man United travelled for their pre-season tour, Ferguson assured that Cristiano Ronaldo would be at Old Trafford next season. The manager confirmed he had met with Ronaldo in Lisbon on Monday, adding that everything went well though they both expressed their feelings as regards to the transfer. However, with his calm and comfortable attitude, was Fergie only trying to create impressions?

On Thursday, Ronaldo was in the USA where he enjoyed the limelight. Certainly, he did not want to further his arguments about quitting England neither with the media nor with Ferguson. All the same… Ronaldo found another way to cry out his desire to leave: with the support of his clutches, Ronaldo danced with four models by his sides during a party in Los Angeles.

The message to Fergie is clear: Ronnie will behave in the most undisciplined manner off the pitch and in training if Manchester United forces him to stay at Old Trafford. But what good is it to keep a player who is not willing to perform and who has broken up his relationship with almost everyone in the team? Former Man United captain Roy Keane believes that if Ronaldo keeps on “pissing of Fergie,” his dream of moving from United to Madrid will come true.

As things stand at the moment, the future of Ronaldo is still unpredictable, though it is clear the player wants to leave. Now, the transfer saga has reached a critical point where Ronaldoâ€s destiny is in his own hands.. If he really wants to go to Madrid, Ronaldo must irritate Fergie until the manager gets tired enough of his behaviour to let him quit the club.
