Following PSG’s failures in the Champions League and the French giants’ need to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, a move could be on the cards during the summer if Neymar pushes for it to happen as he looks to shorten his 11/1 odds of winning the 2018 Ballon d’Or with winner sports.

Pini Zahavi represents Bayern Munich ace Robert Lewandowski and has been involved in some big deals over the years. He believes that Neymar made the right decision in choosing to leave Barcelona and go to join PSG last summer.

Neymar is one player who certainly enjoys being the focal point of the teams he plays in and at Barcelona, this was no longer the case, especially as the Catalan giants boasted Lionel Messi.

In Neymar’s absence through injury, PSG were eliminated from the Champions League at the last-16 stage convincingly by Juventus.  The 26-year-old has been in good form this season for his club as he has gone on to score 29 goals and contribute 19 assists from 30 games.

“Neymar did what he had to,” Zahavi told Polish sports newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

“There are only three football superstars – Messi, Cristiano and Neymar. They can’t play in one club.”

At PSG, Neymar has become the focal point of the team, but his side’s lack of success in the Champions League could be something that could convince the Brazil international to leave France.  Should Neymar join Madrid, he may struggle to become the focal point of the team as Ronaldo is one who also enjoys having this position and this could lead to a clash of personalities.

Zahavi does indeed have a point. At 33 years old, Ronaldo is now a veteran and approaching the latter years of his career. However, the maestro looks hungry as ever to compete at the highest level and play every minute of every game. Though Ronaldo’s form has dipped this season, he still has the fitness of a 23-year-old and it will not be surprising to see him play up to the age of 40.

If Neymar joins Los Blancos, the two could fight over team duties and this could affect squad chemistry and the confidence of the two players.

Spanish publication Diario Gol broke the news earlier today, following reports the Portuguese superstar had been house-hunting in the UK to start planning for life away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has reportedly become disillusioned with life at Real Madrid, after being investigated for tax evasion last summer and seeing his relationship with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez deteriorate.

The 32-year-old has long expressed his admiration for former club Manchester United, who are considered favourites ahead of Chelsea and PSG to sign the star should Real acquiesce to Cristiano’s recent request to have the price of his buy-out clause reduced from a symbolic €1 billion to a figure in the region of €100 million.

Real reportedly willing to sell up

Despite closing out 2017 with further individual awards, including the European Sportsperson of the Year and Globe Soccer Best Player of the Year, Ronaldo has had a relatively torrid time in La Liga this season, with Real currently sitting fourth in the table; 14 points behind runaway leaders and long-time rivals Barcelona.

And, according to Diario Gol, Real may be sensationally prepared to let Ronaldo walk should they receive any suitable offers over the next few weeks.

In an interview with Spanish publication Marca, the 19-year-old stated that while it was “amazing” to meet his former idol, the France international no longer looks up to the Portuguese superstar as his hero due to the fact that the two are competitors in world football.

“I am a competitor and a person who is very competitive and all I want to do is win, win, win,” he is quoted as saying. So it doesn’t really matter who is in front of us, we want to win. I admired him when I was younger, but that ended.”

The ten-time-capped France international midfielder is currently plying his trade on loan at PSG on loan from parent club Monaco, with an eventual full transfer fee rumoured to be worth in the region of €180 million; making him the second-most expensive player in the world, behind teammate Neymar.

Mbappe has gone from strength to strength with the French champions this term, scoring eight times in 14 appearances and coming a close second behind Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante in the poll for French Footballer of the Year 2017. He also stormed into the top ten in the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards earlier in the year, placing in a very respectable seventh. However, the youngster had to watch his childhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo win his fifth straight title, admitting to Marca: “From someone who has won five Ballon d’Ors you can learn a lot.”

La Liga officials have long claimed that Spanish employment law forces clubs to attach a buy-out clause to each player’s contract, but these numbers were largely thought to be hypothetical maximums. That is, at least, until Neymar’s €222 million transfer from Barcelona to Paris-St Germain this summer, in which the French cash kings lodged the full amount as a deposit with the league after the Blaugrana attempted to block the move at every turn.

As a result of such ludicrous figures now changing hands, the buy-out clauses of some of La Liga’s top stars have come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks. And, according to the Portuguese star’s contract with Real, Ronaldo is the joint-most valuable player in the world, with his buy-out – and surprisingly, that of teammate Karim Benzema – standing at a stunning €1 billion.

Lionel Messi, by comparison, has a relatively paltry buy-out clause standing at €300 million, with nine La Liga players deemed hypothetically more valuable than him. Of course, a large part of the figure being relatively “low” is Barcelona’s trust in their star man not to leave the club he so deeply cherishes.

While it would seem one billion euros should be enough to deter potential poachers, the past year has shown us crazy things do happen in football, and no amount of money for the signature of Cristiano Ronaldo can now be considered pure fantasy.

The future of the Portuguese has been in some doubt in recent months, with Ronaldo on occasion not cutting the happiest of figures, while there has also been talk of a bid by Paris Saint-Germain to take the forward, along with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, to the Parc des Princes.

But Real Madrid do not want to lose Ronaldo and will not sell him to PSG, leaving the only way for the French club to sign the former Manchester United man to activate his release clause of €1 billion.

Real Madrid had been planning to offload Kaka over the summer and use the wages paid to the Brazilian to increase Ronaldo’s salary.

However, Kaka stayed put, although he is likely to leave either next month or in the summer.

Real Madrid want to add an extra three years to Ronaldo’s contract, taking it up until 2018, while at the same time handing the Portuguese an increased salary.

Ronaldo is believed to want to remain at the Bernabeu, leading Real Madrid to believe they will be able to come to an agreement with the forward.
