Although Cristiano hasn’t feel any discomfort during his test today, the injury is no fully healed. The test was to see whether Cris able to return to work with the group, and join them for Saturday match against Hercules.

Mourinho wishes to play Cris for Saturday match, but if his condition is not 100% fit, it might ended worse for Lyons.

But hopefully we can watch him play for the next Champions League game, as last Saturday, when Cris was on his car after a check up, he answered a fan question about Lyon, and says “Relax, I will play against Lyon.”

However, the team’s failure to multiply their lead or at least keep a clean sheet at the other end of the field cost them an UEFA Champions League exit.

It was Lyon’s young Bosnia player Pjanic who got the last word with a 75th minute equalizer.

Real Madrid eventually suffered their sixth consecutive UEFA Champions League Round of 16 exit.

Now the fact that Florentino Perez splashed a lot of cash last summer on buying superstars as well as the fact that this season’s European final will be staged at the Santiago Bernabeu makes it even more difficult for Real Madrid to bear their terrible fate.

Cristiano Ronaldo put up a great mental and physical show, using his full pace to disturb Lyon’s defenders and create more opportunities for his mates in attack.

But if Gonzalo Higuain was to blame for an underperformance, the bias referee was certainly the main man behind Lyon’s success at the expense of Real Madrid.

When Cristiano Ronaldo went down under a challenge from Cris as he was about to complete Real Madrid’s break away opportunity, it looked like the referee should have sent the defender off for a second bookable offense.

But that was not to be.

In the first half of the game already, Gonzalo Higuain had a genuine appeal for a penalty after he was tackled aggressively by two defenders in the penalty box.

Now as Los Blancos’ defense kept showing signs of nervousness, it was never a doubt that the former French Ligue 1 champions will score a goal.

Pjanic provided his side’s vital boost with a firing shot that Real Madrid’s Casillas couldn’t prevent from hitting the back of the net.

At that point, the Spanish giants had to score two more goals before reaching the Champions League quarter-finals ahead of Lyon.

But the French side’s back line was tight and with the support of skipper Cris – who surely should have been sent off midway through the second half – it looked even stronger.

In a space of 30 seconds, Real Madrid had two clear appeal on penalties but as time was running out and as the referee looked unimpressed, Los Blancos decided to play on instead of gesturing in vain and thus letting Lyon break away.

In the last minutes of normal time, Cristiano Ronaldo popped up with a firing low shot but Hugo Lloris’ hands were ready enough to catch the ball.

Twice, Lyon should have increased their lead through Sydney Govou and Lisandro Lopez but at each occasion, there was a dreadful waste.

The result remained 1-1, meaning that Lyon had beaten Real Madrid 2-1 on aggregate and thus qualified into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, his dream of lifting the European trophy in his first year as a Real Madrid player is dead… dead and truly buried. Clinching La Liga title will now stand as the Spanish giants’ sole focus to found consolation.

Later on, Higuain  got the chance to double Real Madrid’s lead but unfortunately, his shot hit the goal pole. He then failed to get his name on the score sheet at another goal attempt just a couple of minutes later.

At half time, Real Madrid led 1-0 only.

In the econd half, Lyon coach Claude Puel made another strategy by changing the players, and put Kim Kallstrom and Maxime Gonalons on the field… and it worked.

Lyon played more effectively and dangerously, while Real Madrid’s players lost their tempo and confidence as they missed a  number of scoring opportunities.

The dream team had to bury their hopes  when Miralem Pjanic finally scored on the 75 minutes. It was suddenly all square, leaving Real Madrid obliged to net two more goals in the last 15 minutes.

But clearly, it was impossible for Los Blancos to do that. As the time went by with no further goals to be reported, it meant that Real Madrid had to gave up their ambition of winning the Champions League.

On Wednesday night, they will play Lyon again in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

The match will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu – a ground which will host the final of the competition later in May.

Real Madrid need to overcome their 1-0 first leg deficit at all cost before suffering their sixth consecutive last sixteen exit in Europe.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid fans will have to be behind the entire team and Los Blancos will have to prove Lyon that the Santiago Bernabeu is theirs.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo stated:

“I hope that our fans will be as supportive on Wednesday as they were against Sevilla. We will do our best to win the game.

“We have to prove to Lyon that the Bernabeu is ours.”

He continued stressing the importance of this match:

“Wednesday’s game is a do-or-die affair. We are playing good football and we’ve proven that we are the strongest team in La Liga.

“Lyon are familiar to us. Physically, they are a strong team. But now it will be our turn to play at home.”

If Lyon score a goal, Real Madrid will be obliged to win by a two-goal margin as well.

Champions League football will not return to Madrid until March 10th but Cristiano ‘Apollon 11 x4†Ronaldo has already launched a serious attack on Lyon ahead of the return leg.

The worldâ€s most expensive footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, is angry at Real Madridâ€s defeat to Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday. But he is unwilling to give up the fight.

Los Blancos will play the second leg of this fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 10th, and their mission will be to overturn the 1-0 defeat which Les Gones inflicted on them at the Stade Gerland.

One thing that Real Madrid will surely have to consider will be to back up their performance.

The Spanish giants failed to impose their game throughout the match against Lyon, and while some might blame the freezing weather conditions which were below 0 degrees Celsius, Cristiano Ronaldo thinks otherwise.

Spanish paper Marca gave a report about the Portuguese’s post match press conference:

“There are no excuses; neither the condition of the pitch, nor anything! We played a poor match and Lyon were better.”

In a poll conducted by Marca, it was revealed that a wide range of Real Madrid fans have lost faith in their team concerning Los Blancos†UEFA Champions League quarter-final qualification prospects.

But for Cristiano Ronaldo, there is no reason to be pessimistic.

“During my time at Manchester United, we lost first legs many times. Still, we progressed.

“We [Real Madrid] will come back from this [Champions League defeat to Lyon].”
