Seleção rivalry: Robinho v Cristiano Ronaldo

The battle that will be in the Premiere League at the end of the month between Manchester United and Manchester City is somehow almost already under way.
It won’t be in England this time, but in Brasilia, where Portugal meet the Copa America Champions Brazil.

Ronaldo and Robinho come against each other in what is arguably the most interesting tie of the night, and the Sky Blue number 10 is already relishing this clash.

The 24 year old was part of this summer’s soap-opera involving Real Madrid and Manchester United, as Calderon included him in Madrid’s bid to lure Ronaldo away from Old Trafford.

This idea quickly developed the seed of rivalry between the two Seleccaos. Revenge against Cristiano Ronaldo subsequently became part of Robinho’s desires and everyone thought of him fulfilling this wish by joining the Red Devils’ bitter rivals Chelsea, after it was confirmed that Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford.

Well, Robinho did leave Spain for England but he moved to the other side of Manchester rather than to the Bridge; but he will still have chances to prove that ‘he can be better than Ronaldo’ as said by his agent, when they clash in the Manchester local derby.

But this will only happen on November 30th.

However, tonight, Ronaldo and Robinho have the opportunity of facing each other on the pitch much earlier.

Robinho, who is also an admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, believes though that football is a team game and that anything can happen to a great player on any day.

Brazil are desperate to end their recent goal drought at home. While Robinho will fight to break this curse, Cristiano Ronaldo will want to lift up Portugal’s spirit by defeating the five times World Cup winners for the third consecutive time.
