Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return for Real Madrid’s La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, although the eye injury suffered during last weekend’s win at Levante was still affecting his vision 48 hours after the incident.
Ronaldo was ruled out of Portugal’s friendly in Gabon this week due to the facial injury, which was caused by a stray elbow from Levante defender David Navarro and led to “dizzy spells, problems with his vision and a headache” after the game, according to Portuguese FA doctor Henrique Jones.
The player, who according to Spanish paper AS was still unable to open his left eye fully and is considering some small cosmetic surgery to remove any scarring, told his Twitter followers on Tuesday that he appreciated their support and was on the mend.
“Thanks for the messages received over the last few days,” Ronaldo tweeted. “I am feeling better and hope to return to 100%.”
