Real Madrid welcome Marseille at the Santiago Bernabeu on Match-day two of the Champions this coming Wednesday. Los Blancos are top of Group C with three points like AC Milan. However, due to a better goal difference following the 5-2 victory away to FC Zurich, Real Madrid edge the Rossoneri.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Manuel Pellegrini’s 19-man squad which also includes the likes of Sergio Ramos, Kaka, and Guti but excludes Lassana Diarra who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
Marseille might pose a lot of physical threat regarding their style of play. The French champions, who lost 2-1 to AC Milan on day 1 of the campaign, were defeated again during the weekend by Valenciennes.
However, Marseille’s Laurent Bonnart is ready for Wednesday challenge against Florentino Perez’s all-star squad, Real Madrid. Despite his club’s fragile defense, the French said:
“I am optimistic, and the coach is too.
“Everyone will suffer to the maximum for the others on Wednesday. The coach spoke to us and he had the same feelings.
“He wants [the team to show] a new face but also find a new foundation, based on generosity, selflessness, team-work, which Valenciennes had done better than us on Saturday.
“On Wednesday, if we smile we will find our collective strength.â€
There will also be a reunion between Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabriel Heinze. Both players were mates at Old Trafford. Heinze then moved to Real Madrid before Ronaldo and he is now in France with Marseille.
Speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo’s ability, the Argentine defender declared:
“Cristiano is a player with so many qualities that it is difficult to talk about advice.
“I can be given all the advice in the world, but if you lose concentration for even a second against him, he will punish you.”
