On Thursday night, Cristiano Ronaldo opened and closed Real Madrid’s goal account with a two goals scored in the first half.
His brace helped Real Madrid to convincingly overcome Getafe 4-2 and eventually return to the top of La Liga on goal difference.
After Real Madrid survived a scare inside the first minute of the game when Getafe’s Mario dislocated his free header, the match turned into a one-sided affair.
The first goal of the match didn’t took long to arrive and Rafa might take much of the blame for Real Madrid’s opener.
The player actually handled the ball on the edge of the box, leaving the referee to award Los Blancos a free-kick which Cristiano Ronaldo beautifully converted with a curling shot.
Moments later, the Portuguese winger had the chance to double his tally after he was played through by Gonzalo Higuain.
But his shot got tipped over the bar by the alert Ustari.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence in the game didn’t end just there. After Gonzalo Higuain struck twice to make it 3-0, CR9 disgraced Getafe even more with a wonderful fourth goal for Real Madrid at the 36th minute.
Using his dribbling skills, Ronaldo teased Getafe’s defense – turning Mario into a fool – before lashing a shot from a ridiculous angle.
Two minutes later, Parejo pulled a goal back for Getafe to set the score line at 4-1. In the second half, Real Madrid were less in control and Pedro Leon took the opportunity to reduce his side’s deficit with an 80th minute goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t find his hat-trick despite benefiting from two good chances before the end of the match. But his brace was enough to help Real Madrid climb back on top of La Liga standings.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains second behind Gonzalo Higuain as Real Madrid’s leading goal scorer. He also has a total of 17 goals in La Liga’s top scorers chart.
