The two Real Madrid players are in the running for the award in recognition of the best footballer aged 28 years or over
Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo have been named as candidates for the 2013 Golden Foot 2013 prize which is awarded every year in Monaco. This award, created in 2003, is given to the best footballers in Europe aged 28 or over for outstanding sporting achievements, both individually and as members of their respective teams.
Alongside the two Real Madrid players, the 10-candidate list for the 2013 Golden Foot 2013 award includes Drogba, Iniesta, Klose, Trezeguet, Beckham, Lampard, Pirlo and Etoo, selected by a panel consisting of members of leading sports media channels around the world. The winner will be chosen by a vote to be conducted on the Internet.
The winners to date are: Roberto Baggio (2003), Nedved (2004), Shevchenko (2005), Ronaldo (2006), Del Piero (2007), Roberto Carlos (2008), Ronaldinho (2009), Totti (2010), Giggs (2011) and Ibrahimovic (2012).
