The French football magazine will soon announce its winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, and Messi and Casillas vie with Cristiano Ronaldo to pick up the price.
Ronaldo has undoubtedly been outstanding throughout last season, scoring 42 goals and keeping a consistent form that powered Manchester United to both domestic and European glory.
Beating UEFA semi-finalist Lionel Messi is Kaka, Saviola and Ronaldinho’s choice like many other players. The young player has been physically amazing and his dribbling skills have helped him attract millions of fans around the world. However, despite all these efforts, Lionel Messi’s Barcelona has struggled to achieve anything in these last couple of years, unlike Ronaldo’s Manchester United.
Talking about Iker Casillas, his excellent performance in the Euro Championships has earned him extra votes. But let’s remember that he was in the shadow of other good goalies such as Van der Sar and Peter Cech in last season’s Champions League.
Well, Zidane is right. If Ronaldo does not win the Ballon d’Or, it will be a question of personality preferences.
The player himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, is well aware that he is not the one responsible for the votes.. However, he made clear his feelings and insisted that he was confident of winning the price simply because he fully deserves it.
