Cristiano has been unable to feature for his country on three several occasions, since Portugal’s exit from the Euros, due to injury.
In the meantime, it was his Manchester United teammate, Luis Nani, who enjoyed a first XI place in the squad.
Nani has been incredible in front, creating many chances and scoring a goal in all three consecutive games. The 22 year old winger has certainly proved his worth to new boss Carlos Queiros, and though Portugal lost 3 – 2 on Wednesday at home to Denmark, Nani was not the man to blame.
There is no doubt that this exciting player is developing quickly into a Portuguese symbol, and his jersey might have a mesmerising impact on his impressive performances – the beginning of a distinctive successful career.
Nani now wears the number 7 shirt in the senior national team of Portugal – a number formally carried by the retired Luis Figo and then passed on to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo would certainly return to action for his country whenever he is fit enough to play. Portugal will have to play against Sweden and Albania in October.
Would he be given back his lucky number 7 or will it stay on Nani for always? Should it be the case, it will be interesting to see his new number and how will perform with it.
