The world’s most expensive player Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted seven years ago in fact he almost reached an agreement with Arsenal before finally chose Manchester United.
Former world’s best players aged 25 was scored 84 goals in 196 Premier League game with the Red Devils before he moved to Real Madrid for a record 80 million euros last year.
“That’s right,I was one inch away for becoming an Arsenal player,” Ronaldo told GQ magazine as reported by Fourfourtwo.
“Before, my mom and I met Arsene Wenger for three times. We almost reached an agreement, “he admits.
“One time after signing a contract with Manchester United, my mother had time to sit down together with me in front of the TV to watch the English Premier League. Suddenly the camera shot Wenger, and she said “I know him, I like that guy,” added Ronaldo, half laugh.
The reporter also wrote that according to Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes , there had been a struggle but apparently MU was more professional in showing their seriousness. For that reason his client chose Old Trafford as his ‘new house’.
“Yeah, that’s what happened. Each club wanted Cristiano. Back then it was Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona showed their interest. However, Manchester United and Arsenal were the one who really serious.”
