Cristiano Ronaldo blasts Chelsea boss

Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a swipe at Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, according to the Daily Mail.

The Portuguese superstar won the La Liga title under Mourinho during the 2012-13 season, however the former Manchester United man was less than complimentary when asked about his fellow countryman recently.

‘There was a bad atmosphere and it was a difficult period in personal terms,” Ronaldo revealed.

‘There were situations with other players and also with the fans.’

Mourinho clashed with the Spanish press and Real Madrid icon Iker Casillas during his spell at the Bernabeu, and despite his reputation as one of the most respected managers in the game, Ronaldo says he wouldn’t call the current Chelsea boss a friend – interesting considering the common perception Mourinho is close to all of his players.

He was booed by Real Madrid supporters during his final season in charge at the Bernabeu, and left the Spanish giants under something of a cloud.

Ronaldo added: ‘Of all my managers, the only one I have a friendship with is Sir Alex Ferguson. But I’m not in football to have friends. I’m here to win.’

Real Madrid to rest Cristiano Ronaldo against Real Sociedad

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be involved in Real Madrid’s La Liga trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday, with coach Carlo Ancelotti revealing he wants the attacker to have two weeks off to recover full fitness.

Ronaldo has been hampered by knee and thigh muscle injuries for months, and admitted himself while receiving UEFA’s Best Player in Europe award for 2013-14 on Thursday that he was not at 100 percent at the moment.

The Portugal captain was on Friday left out of the national squad named by coach Paulo Bento for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier with Albania, and Madrid have now decided to take a similar approach, with Ronaldo now not due to play until the La Liga ”derbi” at home to Atletico Madrid on September 13.

Ancelotti revealed the decision at Saturday’s news conference ahead of the trip to San Sebastian, saying: ”[Ronaldo] is good, but we have preferred to use this week and the next two to recover completely and have him in optimum condition for the game against Atletico Madrid and the Champions League.

”Tomorrow he will not play against Real Sociedad and he is not in the squad.”

Sir Alex Ferguson Is My Only Friend In Football, says Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid and former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo says his old manager Sir Alex Ferguson is his only friend in football, according to Spanish publication AS.

Ronaldo supposedly told Portuguese TV that he is “not in football to make friends” but that the former United manager is an exception, in what will go down as something of a surprise revelation from the 29-year-old.

As one of the biggest names in world football for much of the last decade, Ronaldo is a world class talent and hugely popular among large sections of supporters, despite also having something of a ‘primadonna’ reputation, especially earlier in his career.

However, the AS official Twitter account posted these comments from the Bernabeu wide-man, which suggest that he harbours special feelings for the man who kick-started his career at the top level when he brought him to Old Trafford.

Ferguson himself is not always known for being easy to work with, and has fallen out with a number of big-name United players that he’s worked with over the years, including long-serving and successful members of his squad such as Roy Keane and David Beckham.

Cristiano Ronaldo wins UEFA best player in Europe award

Cristiano Ronaldo has won UEFA’s award as the best player in Europe last season after scoring a record 17 goals in the Champions League.

The Real Madrid and Portgual forward beat Bayern Munich pair Manuel Neuer of Germany and the Netherlands’ Arjen Robben.

The voting was by journalists from UEFA’s 54 member countries at the Champions League groups draw event. Ronaldo also ensured Portugal qualified for the World Cup by scoring a memorable hat trick in a playoff win against Sweden.

Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Franck Ribery previously won the award first presented in 2011.

UEFA created the prize after the original European Footballer of the Year honor, known as the Ballon d’Or, merged with FIFA’s world player award.

Nadine Kessler of Germany won the women’s award.

Cristiano Ronaldo available to play in League opener

Cristiano Ronaldo is available to play for Real Madrid in Monday’s La Liga opener, manager Carlo Ancelotti says, despite the injuries that have plagued the winger all summer.

The Ballon d’Or winner struggled with tendinosis while playing for Portugal at the World Cup, then a muscle strain prevented him in playing 90 minutes in either leg of the Spanish Super Cup this week.

However, Ancelotti revealed in a news conference on Sunday that Ronaldo would be ready to face Cordoba, calling any injuries that remain ”minor annoyances.”

The Real Madrid boss blamed Ronaldo‘s persistant hobbles on the team’s busy preseason. Ronaldo accompanied the team on its tour of the United States and faced Manchester United on Aug. 2, then scored twice in the UEFA Super Cup in Wales on Aug. 12, before also scoring against Fiorentina in Poland four days later.Cristiano Ronaldo has had a whirlwind preseason, but he should be available to play on Monday as La Liga begins.

”He’s had this problem because his preseason was not very regular,” Ancelotti said.

”He needed individual work to solve the problem with his tendon, which is very well solved because there’s no trouble with it anymore. And that was the most important thing.”

After opening the La Liga season at home on Monday, Real travel north to face Real Sociedad the following Sunday.

”Next week we have a whole week to train and we have to make the most of it,” Ancelotti said. ”It will be good for [Ronaldo] to work to improve his conditioning.”

Cristiano Ronaldo fit to play in Spanish Super Cup decider

Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit for Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup second leg against Atletico Madrid on Friday, coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Thursday.

The Portuguese went off as a precaution at half time during the first leg at the Bernabeu on Tuesday suffering a hamstring strain during the 1-1 draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined the squad during today’s training session after missing out yesterday.

“He is available to play and will be able to start the game. All the players are ready but that doesn’t mean I won’t make changes,” Ancelotti told a news conference in Madrid.

There were initial fears that Ronaldo had suffered a recurrence of the knee injury that he suffered at the back end of last season and carried into the World Cup but that was quickly played down.

Real have set their sights on winning all six trophies on offer this season having won the European Super Cup against Sevilla, but they were lacklustre against Atletico and the draw has put their city rivals in the driving seat.

“We are used to playing against Atletico and they are used to facing us. I don’t think the style of game will be different, they now have the advantage from their positive result at the Bernabeu but I think it will be the same type of match,” said Ancelotti.

“We need to defend, counter attack well and take advantage of free-kicks.”

Angel Di Maria has been strongly linked with a move away from Real and despite his good form started on the bench in the first leg, but Ancelotti says he will treat him as any other member of the squad if he ends up staying.

“Di Maria asked to leave this summer and rejected the option to renew. We will look for the best option for him and if at the end of August he is still here then he will work with us like last season,” he said.

Di Maria wants to leave Real: Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says Argentina forward Angel Di Maria has asked for a transfer.

The 26-year-old Di Maria has spent the last four years at Madrid and helped it win the Champions League last season.

Ancelotti says “Di Maria has asked to leave and he has rejected an offer (to renew his contract) from the club.”

Di Maria, who is under contract with Madrid until 2018, has been linked to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Madrid signed two more attacking midfielders in James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos this summer, increasing competition for Di Maria to maintain his place in its starting lineup.

Don’t Sell Angel di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos Tell Real Madrid President Florentino Perez

Real Madrid team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos have urged club president Florentino Perez not to sell Angel di Maria this summer, according to Madrid-based daily Marca.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with a move out of the Santiago Bernabeu, with English giants Manchester United showing keen interest in securing the services of the winger.

However, the club’s supporters, along with the 26-year-old’s team-mates, are eager to keep hold of the wide-man with Ronaldo and Ramos, the two most influential players in the dressing room, believed to have spoken to the president about the issue.

Di Maria‘s popularity with the fans was clearly visible as he was greeted with a loud cheer after coming off the bench in the second half of their 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup yesterday.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has already said that he will keep selecting Di Maria and is not aware of the player’s decision regarding his future.

“Di Maria is available, like everyone else”, Ancelotti was quoted as saying Eurosport.

“Whether he starts or not, he will have opportunities to showcase his talent like everyone else.”

“I do not know what Di Maria has decided.

“But I know he will train with us and he can help us.”

Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid. Ronaldo Injured as Atletico deny Real

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti believes star Cristiano Ronaldo‘s hamstring injury is not serious.

Ronaldo came off at half-time of Real’s 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana first leg after being largely anonymous on Tuesday.

While further tests are required, Ancelotti said the 29-year-old Portuguese attacker should be OK.

”He felt something and was uncomfortable. We’ll evaluate it tomorrow,” Ancelotti said. ”Apparently, it was not serious.”

James Rodriguez, who replaced Ronaldo, put the hosts in control of the tie with his 81st-minute goal.

But Raul Garcia levelled for Atletico, who are well-placed heading into Friday’s second leg at the Vicente Calderon.

Ancelotti believes a similar performance should be enough for Real to win the trophy.

”Atletico do have an advantage for the second leg since now we have to score at the Vicente Calderon,” the Italian said.
